Well, we had a whole ruleset built up for it, but seeing as nobody wants to read an essay before starting a game, and we all know how to play anyway, all I will say is this.
This is DBF Warfare. It works similarly to NGI except you have to modify your own map after your battles. I will not be partaking, just moderating. The thread will only be open on weekends (approximately).
The current game date is:
FEBRUARY 2051
Rules: -Don't be OP. If you really need a guideline as to what is and what is not OP, check the ruleset we were working on defined here.
This is the current world map. As you claim your nation, update the map accordingly. We'll be using numbers instead of the dots used in NGI for armies, but you should track your army count and bonuses in your signature as well. Map follows:
EDIT: Oh, and NPCs are assumed to have an amount of armies equivalent to the lowest active player. That goes for bonuses too. So, please don't attack anyone until everyone has had a chance to join.
EDIT2: Also, since NGI had some issues with timescales, I'll just keep track of the month up here based on page. One month per page should be fair. Disgorged mentioned winter approaching, so I'll start us off in November of 2050: exactly 38 years in the future.
Emperor Charles - "People are not born equal! Some are born swifter afoot, some with greater beauty, some are born into poverty and others born sick and feeble. Both in birth and upbringing, in sheer scope of ability every human is inherently different; Yes that is why people discriminate against one another, which is why there is struggle, competition and the unfaltering march of progress. Inequality is not wrong, equality is. But not our beloved Britannia, we fight, we compete, evolution is continuous. Britannia alone moves forward, advancing steadily into the future. We will fight on, we shall struggle, compete, plunder and dominate, and in the end, the future shall be ours. All hail Britannia!"

The Phoenix Imperium is the soverign and internationally recognized government of the British Isles (formerly the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" and the "Republic of Ireland"). When the United Kingdom attempted to annex Ireland in 2018, they were met with considerably more resistance than was expected. Both sides were refused aide by their allies; they already had their own hands full with the state of the world, and they claimed the war between the two islands was a "private and domestic dispute".
The violence, however, was uncontainable, and spilled into the streets of every major city of the two nations, with citizens taking up arms in civil war. Utilities, communications, and any semblance of order were quickly swept away, and in many cases actually destroyed. In 2023 the remnants of the British Army, along with a few ships that hadn't turned privateer or pirate, began to restore order, and were met with little resistance by a battered and war-weary populace. Order was restored fairly quickly under a single government calling itself the Phoenix Imperium.
The Phoenix Imperium remained under Emergency Military Command for the next several years, and the reconstruction of major city centers as clean, pre-planned metropoli moved along swiftly. A constiution was put into effect and, slowly, more and more aspects of government were placed under civic control. By 2032, the groundwork for the new cities had been almost completed; An almost decade-long state of emergency was ended, and life became normal and prosperous.
By 2045 the Phoenix Imperium had become one of the world's most powerful economies, and one of the most technological and environmental nations the world over. It's cities were distinctively clean and modern. The entirety of the nation's power was produced with fusion, solar, or hydroelectric technologies. Crime and public health and happiness were among the lowest and highest in the world, respectively.
The capitol of the Phoenix Imperium is Nova Arcadia, at the heart of Great Britain (the largest of the British Isles), and at the heart of the city lies the Citadel, a massive and reinforced hexagonal structure that is both the seat of government and the stronghold of the military. Anyone who has taken a tour can tell that the building has way too many atriums and lobbies to be truly functional, and anything important lies within the secretive and innumerable sublevels and bunkers beneath the building.
The Phoenix Imperium is a Multiparliamentary Technocracy, and almost all aspects of government are autonomously run by several parliaments comprised of publically-elected experts in their fields. The military is divided between the Armoured, the Naval, and the Airborne. The Internal Operations Service is officially responsible to both civilian and military leaders, but is considerably more powerful than most people suspect.
In the year 2050, a modern and technophilic society voted for war. With the rest of the world appearing to be in dubious condition, veteran military officer Commander James T. Fox was elevated to the wartime-only rank of Imperator, and placed in charge of what was dubbed the Integration Campaign. Military goals were vaguely laid out, and could range from helping to secure international peace to the annexation of any territory deemed necessary. Military factories began to operate around the clock. Recruitment efforts skyrocketed. The war machine began to turn it's gears, pro defensione imperii, and Imperator Fox is it's sole commander.
Mark 250 Main Battle Tank - 1/20 The Phoenix Imperium hasn't engaged in war since the conflicts that created it. A new, state-of-the-art battle tank is going to be required for overland warfare. Ministry projections estimate it as giving a 10% edge in combat effectiveness over other armoured formations. Specifications are available on demand.
Overhaul of Transchannel Tunnel - 1/10 In 2038 a considerably larger underwater tunnel was built between the Phoenix Imperium and the European mainland. The tunnel is large, but was never designed for cargo transport, and so sea travel across the channel was still common. Overhauling the tunnel for movement of cargo - or materiel - could be done without raising suspicion.
Production of Armoured Brigades - 1/3 Factories have been pulling three and four shifts a week to meet military production demands. We're going to need a lot more equipment before this is through.

It was during the year 2020 that a new political party had emerged in Polish politics. This party was known as the Transcendent Party. The Transcendent party was vastly different from any other party seen before. It advocated improvement of the self both physically and mentally through the use of modern technology. The ultimate goal of the Transcendent Party was to reach a point where humans would evolve into something beyond human that was much more powerful, eliminating common problems such as disease, hunger, and aging. The party gained rapid popularity, and by 2030 almost half of the population designated themselves as affiliated with the Transcendent Party.
The rapid rise of the party caused many Polish political leaders to fear and even condemn the party, stating that its ideas were not remotely possible for another two hundred years. Although advances in science and technology were disproving these alleged claims. At the rate technology and medical knowledge was proceeding, Poland would have the capability to make humans considerably if not entirely resilient to any forms of disease within the century. At the same time, research was being conducted by gerontologists and oncologists who were slowly discovering the inner causes of aging in the human body.
By 2050, Poland’s citizens unified under one idea: to advance the human condition through innovation in synthetic biology and mechanical integration (or simply stated as Transhumanism). The unified Poland dubbed itself as “The Adventum Empire” with Warsaw as its capital. The Adventum Empire was led by a man who was referred to as “Oracle”. Oracle had been a major influence on mechanical engineering and applying new advances in biomechanical technology into the human body. He was also excellent at budgeting defense spending and creating strategic military procedures. When he was proclaimed as the Imperator of the Adventum Empire, Oracle began focusing on building up his nation’s defense and technological power.
Advances in technology also led to Poland creating their first city relying solely on renewable resources in 2025 and by 2050 all of Poland had become free of fossil fuels.
Originally the economy of Poland was a major agricultural producer. Now with the revenue from agriculture Oracle has turned the country’s focus towards human enhancement through the latest innovations in technology for military and economic purposes.
Oracle stood outside as his workers made the finishing touches towards the new Adventum Headquarters located in central Warsaw. It towered over the other buildings and its beauty made everything around it pale in comparison.
“All construction has been finished, Oracle.” The manager of the construction zone walked up to him and gave a satisfied smile. Oracle preferred not to be called the Imperator. He turned to the manager as his heavy slate grey coat unfurled in the wind. As winter approached so too did the new age.
“Excellent.” Oracle looked behind him at his economic advisors. “Begin recruiting citizens with masters in mechanical and bioengineering immediately. This is only the beginning.”
“It is done, Imperator.” His advisors spoke in unison as they awaited to follow Oracle. Oracle walked into the front of Adventum Headquarters as the glass doors slid open.

Oracle awaited to see the recruits found by his administration. When they had arrived at the research floor of Adventum Headquarters, fifty of the greatest engineers in the country were present. He put them into separate branches of groups.
"You are now under the administration of Adventum Headquarters." Oracle observed each person as they sat in the community room to listen. "You shall begin research that aims to improve sensory capabilities. You have each been designated to go to one of the labs on the left or the right. Research shall take place effective immediately. Thank you." Oracle watched each engineer and scientist head to their designated laboratory to commence research.
Fox walked across the rough concrete floor to the personnel lift. Even as the only Imperator in service with the military, he was still subject to every security check on his way into the catacombs below the citadel.
He keyed in the appropriate floor and security code - one did not simply push a button here. As the doors closed and he began to descend, he adjusted the fit of his new slate-grey coat and black beret. His uniform had required updating; his coat to bear the insignia of his new rank, and the beret to represent his movement from Armoured to Central command - even though Central wore red berets, and he had chosen IOS black.

Ministry projections estimate it as giving a 10% edge in combat effectiveness over other armoured formations. Specifications are available on demand.
Overhaul of Transchannel Tunnel - 2/10 In 2038 a considerably larger underwater tunnel was built between the Phoenix Imperium and the European mainland. The tunnel is large, but was never designed for cargo transport, and so sea travel across the channel was still common. The labs were filled with scientists. Machines poured various liquids into one another. Cases of lab rats were kept perfectly across the walls of each laboratory. The time would come where these rats would come in handy.
As Oracle looked out through one of the large windows in Adventum Headquarters, he could see the construction being done on various buildings throughout the area in an effort to make them as strong material-wise as the Adventum Headquarters. He could also see the beginning of fortifications around the area due to his demands for improved national security. His hazel eyes scanned the area for a few moments before he focused back on his plans.
If the UK annexed Ireland, would there still be a border between N Ireland and Ireland? Or is that an internal border? Anyway, first random event time! And this one won't affect the players at all!
The dictatorship (newly established) in Guinea has started a minor war with Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. As no current superpowers are established in Africa, very few people know or care about this.
At exactly 12:30 P.M. Oracle arose from his desk and slid open the cabinet underneath. Inside the cabinet was a small suitcase. Oracle lightly opened the suitcase, revealing a complex array of wires and buttons inside as well as a square red light. He pressed one of the buttons and the light began to blink slowly. He closed the suitcase and placed it back into the cabinet, closing it. He went towards the elevator and proceeded to the bottom floor.
"Order all non-essential personnel to evacuate the area." Oracle spoke to the head administrator as he began to exit the building. "Inform them it is a safety procedure in case of a terrorist attack."
"It is done, Imperator." The head administrator proceeded to turn on the intercom.
Intercom:"Will all essential personnel please evacuate the building immediately. This is a test of safety procedures."
I was gonna wait but I won't bother. Two announcements.
1) Guinea won, but with heavy losses. They're down to 1 army. That said they annexed the other countries, so I'm removing those borders. Updated map will be posted when I finish editing.
2) I've given Draxor permission to do some NPC stuff if he wants to.
Once everyone had evacuated the building and the scientists had collected all of their valuable research to take with them, everyone waited a few minutes for the intercom to come on again as standard procedure.
Intercom:Evacuation procedure was conducted appropriately. The test has completed. You are now safe to re-
The intercom message was cut off by the explosion at the top floor of Adventum Headquarters. The glass from the windows shattered as fire and smoke billowed from inside the Imperator's office. Citizens in buildings nearby Adventum Headquarters went into panic upon the sight of the explosion and rushed to escape the area. The local police squadrons escorted citizens away from the area as fire response teams rushed to contain and stop the fire from the building, but before the response team could arrive the building collapsed in a massive cloud of smoke. Firefighters put out the remaining fires as search teams looked for any people caught inside the rubble.
Due to the explosion Oracle had the groups of scientists dispersed into various labs throughout the country to continue research. He informed the news broadcasters that this was a planned attack by Germany. Fortunately, with the development of stronger national security projects, a new headquarters was being constructed in a remote area deep underground inside the Adventum Empire's borders. All of his operations would have to remain here for now.
"Order all military units to attack Germany." Oracle commanded his chief military officer. "This affront on the homeland is a declaration of war."
"It is done, Imperator." The commander saluted Oracle before transmitting his orders to all military personnel.
News Broadcast:It has been reported that the explosion at Adventum Headquarters was a planned attack by the German government. Fortunately, our Imperator was not inside the building during the explosion. Seven people have been confirmed killed while eight others remain missing.
The Imperator has ordered an attack on Germany in an effort to subdue the aggressors.
Adventum Empire wins with 6 armies left. What you do with Germany's former leadership is up to you, but before you defeat them they insist that they had nothing to do with the bomb. Conspiracy theorists point out that the building was suspiciously evacuated when the explosion went off and there was no proof that the Germans did it, but as usual they are ignored by the general public.
That said, Germany's old ally Japan (Alliance made between 2020 and 2050 sometime) demands an apology from the Adventum Empire for what they see as an unprovoked attack on their ally.
Annexation or occupation are entirely up to you, as are the map updates and your military distribution if you choose not to annex.
EDIT: Derp, you had 16 armies. Make that 7 left over.
Our nation is humbly harbored in Australia - Henceforth known as Brohmzlunz Meiger. The nation itself is to be known as the "Aanz'werdtuab'terf'tur bi Forschair eh Dumpl'si", or "ABFEDeration".
Our government consists of three houses: the Swenet, consisting of three publicly elected representatives from our three provinces, which are known as the Nert(North-east), Sert(South-east), and Wert(West) - they are elected every three years; the Yunslous, consisting of three officials elected by the Swenet, also from the three provinces - they are elected every nine years; and the last house is of the Reul'Zhargon, the powerful executive officer of the nation, who is elected by the Yunslous every seventeen years. Though not written in the governmental charter of the ABFEDeration, the Reul'Zhargon has typically come from an upper class family of the Sert province, with a few exceptions from Nert, and a single elected individual from Wert many years ago.
It is worth noting that while the Yunslous and the Reul'Zhargon require a candidate to be born in Brohmzlunz Meiger, the Swenet may elect foreign-naturalized citizens, though this has never happened before.
We are not a violent nation, per se, but we have proven ourselves to be radical vanguards of new-age policies and ideologies. Our majority religion is less than fifty years of age. We call it Lus'rism, after the famous philosopher Rignum Lus'r, who bequeathed unto us the knowledge and belief that our nation holds the sacred duty to act of our own accord and defend ourselves as we see fit.
Our capital city is Phlundra, but each province has a local capital city, excepting Sert, where Phlundra is on the southern coast. The capital of Nert is Luft'hans (located near the Division between the lands), and the capital of Wert is Urig (located on the western coastline). Phlundra is the most populous, Urig is almost as large, and Luft'hans is the least populous of the three, though still of considerable size.
The economy of Brohmzlunz Meiger is mostly based on the export of coal, oil, and agriculture, and is centralized in the government. Most industries are run in Nert and Wert, but handled on a higher level in Sert. The coastal cities are typically more populated than the inland. We have a very large branch of research facilities on the island of Brohmzlunz Meener (Tasmania).
The current reigning Reul'Zhargon is Moisch Hoblagend, who has been in office for five years. He is native to Sert, and is popular in most of the nation, though considerably less popular near the capital of Nert.
The three current members of the Yunslous are Brattin Varmy (of Sert), Slure M'idein (of Wert), and Karmun Volvain (of Nert), the latter being the first female member to ever serve in the Yunslous.
The three current members of the Swenet are Marcy Avbolain, Krauss Inmal, and Cole Sunnheld, of Sert, Wert, and Nert, respectively.
The people of Brohmzlunz Meiger have been unhappy with a slow economic growth over recent years, but the Swenet and Reul'Zhargon are caught in a deadlock over what to do. The Yunslous is split between the two, and many citizens of Nert have called for governmental reform.
Recent research has been aimed at modifying agriculture to produce more hardy plants (Nert and Sert support this, but Wert is cautious), though some research has been dedicated solely to economics and how growth may be spurred.
I do not pity you if you just read all of that.
Reul'Zhargon Hoblagend sits in his office overlooking the Sertian Sea, contemplating his next move to try and sway the Swenet officials. Nertian outcries have called for change, and change is something Hoblagend is willing to provide, to a degree. The degree of change they propose is what he fears. Why, if the government underwent a full makeover, who's to say he would still have control over it by the end? He needs to find a middle ground, or face an uprising from Nert. It's in their blood - the philosopher Rignum Lus'r was a native of Nert, and spurned his religious ideologies unto them directly. Change is something they crave in their very souls - a change that threatens Hoblagend very much indeed. If he, and the rest of the government, cannot find a way to speed up this slump in the economy, they're going to have a lot of problems in ALL of the provinces.
"Bring to my council the Swenet and the Yunslous immediately." Hoblagend said to his assistant, who had previously been combing her hair. "Tell them I have a proposition." She quickly ran down the hallway to the rooms marked "Swenet" and "Yunslous". Stuff is about to go down.

Fox walked down the hallway and into what was, more or less, a meeting room. He disliked that he was in a meeting room, but it had to be done.
He walked in and immediately found himself at the end of a table. Most of the twenty or so men and women sitted around the table wore the red berets of his new command staff. A handful wore the black of the Internal Operations Service.
Imperator or not, the IOS was a force to be reckoned with, and he would have to make sure he became acquainted with these individuals. The fact that the Service would want to be kept in the loop, however, did not surprise him at all.

Commander:"Imperator, our forces have conquered Germany. Germany's ally Japan demands an apology for the attack."
Oracle noted the commander's information and remained silent for a few seconds before speaking.
"Even the amount of troops in each territory. Germany is now an official part of the Adventum Empire." He blinked once. "Send a radio transmission to Japan with a formal apology and an explanation as to why the attack was made."
Commander:"It is done, Imperator." The commander went into the military HQ and ordered a radio broadcast to Japan formally apologizing for the attack.
The Russian and Canadian Governments join forces to become the CAR Federation. The new leaders close all immigration doors for both nations, and seals itself from the rest of the world.
The Swenet was baffled. The Yunslous was intrigued. The Reul'Zhargon was pleased with how his proposition stood, until the Swenet interjected yet again with a bit of apprehension.
"What is your reasoning behind this decision, sir? I realize the Yunslous ultimately holds more power to veto such a maneuver, but the Swenet will have to carry your message unto the people. What is this going to do for our nation?" said Mr. Sunnheld.
"New Zealand has been a thorn in our sides. Their trade embargoes on our goods have hit us hard, for a long time. If we can wrest control of their government, we can remove the trade embargoes and reopen trade to them. Our populous demands a solution to this economic recession immediately, and the fastest way to solve it is to reopen the closest market to us, by force." replied Hoblagend.
The Swenetors were satisfied, and the Yunslousers were convinced. The Reul'Zhargon dismissed the council, and ordered quick military preparations to be made. For the first time in months, they had come to an agreement.

You should probably update the map. Not like there's any borders to remove or whatever, as the nations aren't connected, but you may want to color them anyway. You get 15 armies to start, I suppose. Distribute them as you like between the two.
Everyone seemed to nod their agreement. The majority of them were military types, hence why he had selected them; the rest he had selected for a habit of getting things done.
"None of you are here as a matter of course. You have all been selected because of your proven abilities. Imperator or not, no commander ever got anywhere without support. I know that. You know that. That is why we are here. Pro defensione imperii. For the defense of the empire."
There was a pause to shift gears. Even though he understood their power, Fox had never been one for speeches.
"Major Hayashi. I understand you have something to show us?"
Hayashi stood. She wore the black beret of the Internal Operations Service, and was probably the lowest ranking member in the room. Personally, Fox knew her well, and most of the commanders in the room were at least familiar with her. A smart commander would become familiar with the head of Research and Development for the Internal Operations Service.
"Yes, we're quite proud of this one, actually."
The holographic display in the center of the table - which was a good sign of the importance of this room, as that technology was bulky and cheap - came to life with an image of a satellite. The Major began to introduce a series of sattelites capable of delivering great punishment to just about any point on the planet.
"...of kinetic force over an area of variable size. For lack of a better name, the boys have been calling it 'Striker' for obvious reasons. It's capable of delivering..."
Fox's was relatively distracted. He was already aware of the project - it had been approved a while ago, and most of the actual equipment was complete. The difficult part was, of course, getting it into space. And the politicians always want some sort of cover up for this type of thing, he thought to himself. Hayashi had mentioned the project to him a few weeks back and he'd already requested and read most of the information.
A lieutenant came up as discreetly as he could - not very, but he tried - and handed Fox a report. The short version was that Poland had annexed Germany, and Japan got upset. The notion of another force gaining power in Europe was an obstacle, but not necessarily a threat...

Hayashi finished her presentation. The rest of the meeting was filled with various odds and ends of information. Fox got up and made his way back to the shaft. In due time he came to a room he knew he'd be spending a lot of time in.
His command room. He stood on the central platform, a small open area surrounded by translucent panel displays. The multifaced wall had a number of people at sunken-in consoles, with more large displays above them. Looking down, another holographic display could emerge from the ground as desired.
"First step is first. We're going to secure our interests in Europe."
That basically boiled down to "we're going to find an excuse to invade France" but nobody even blinked at the statement. Most people knew this was coming. The Integration Campaign was basically a gentle label for the annexation of nearby countries.
"Lieutenant, have the explosives been delivered to the tunnel project?" "They should be ready any minute, now. We're awaiting confirmation from the team." "Good."
