Okay... Here's my latest idea. It's an RPG, based on a postapocolypic world. Every person is an individual. Every player begins scattered over Washington state. Depending on your mode of transport, you will move a certain number of pixels per post. The goal is to group up and survive against the machines, which have taken the world for themselves. The machines can take many forms. Some are commonplace, but not very dangerous. Robotic insects flying around. More complex and powerful machines are much more rare. But ever persistent, is the Signal. It emanates from a tall, ominous structure on Blake island.
In reality, I will have a forwarded port. Volunteers would be appreciated too. The "Signal" can be read by connecting to the server software. It is the job of players to figure out how the signal works, and ultimately, use that knowledge to bring the machines to their knees.
What do you think?
The underlying architecture of the signal shouldn't take too long to figure out. Players will find bits of code in old labs as they explore the landscape, capture robots and observe what happens as they feed them their own signals. So, a good deal of this game will be in real time. Real problem solving. But the other bit is in game time.
Oh... I almost forgot. You can die in the game. This doesn't really do anything except make you drop whatever you were carrying, and cause you to re-spawn in a new location.

Cool idea. Just wondering, will extensive programming knowledge be required? The only form of programming I really know is HTML, and I'm getting rusty on that.

Or, for that matter, any computer ability.
