Also something you can do: Show off. After a point, laser/thunder gets a bit old cause it's relatively easy to do. Something like this is creative and new, and of course much harder to work with. It would probably only be used for novelty, though, aside from motion of particles of water or powder.

Qwerty, I'm gonna let you make a 16 bit ram that takes only half the screen and then you can call laser tech easy.
Here's a run down of the different technologies as I see them.
Laser tech: Possible to basically do any sort of boolean logic if it fits in the screen. Gates can be re-used. Laser tech most resembles real world logic. If the screen were limitless, there would already be a laser computer. Laser tech suffers from a fatal flaw in that it is only incredibly probable that a device will work, but not absolutely guaranteed. Stray pulses are extremely unlikely, but certainly possible. Given the large size of gates, it is probable that a full computer cannot be created. I have not given up hope.
C4 tech: One off gates, not reusable. Difficult to make logic. Generally crappy. There will never be a C4 computer.
Thunder tech: Any boolean logic can be created with the provision that operations cannot be cascaded beyond two, perhaps three levels. Since there is no amplifier, signals eventually become un-usable. This precludes many functions of normal logic which most people don't seem to understand. Thunder is much more compact than laser, but without a compact amplifier (thunder -> laser -> thunder conversion chain does amplify, but that is huge), thunder tech is doomed to less complicated endeavors than laser IN GENERAL. Some very impressive thunder tech devices do exist. Please recognize that thunder CANNOT accomplish the same things as laser. Laser can do everything thunder can do. This is why I think laser is better, but it does depend on the application. There will never be a thunder computer.
Cloud computing: Cloud logic is one-off by nature, but it has the potential to be much more impressive than any other one-off tech. It certainly seems like fun to me and I haven't taken enough time to play with it. There will never be a cloud computing computer.

Might be necro-posting, but I made a XOR gate with bird... Not fail-free, but what else is?
Btw, you might wanna put an additional pixel of stone on the ple for it to be even better.
