Or how about a boss that when defeated, it splits into a huge mob of little enemies

Well first we need enemies that spawn other enemies when they die.

We already have enemies that spawn other enemies, that shouldn't be too hard.
I still like the idea of a grassland-one-esqe boss, with strength in numbers instead of just strength (Complete with two attacks and all), but this sounds better.

What would be cool would be a tornado type of enemy, comprised of several horizontal lines. That would work for a splitting boss well, I think

But we don't have enemies that have attacks when they die yet.

Then we should get those.

Grasslands->Castle Gate->Castle Boss, I think you'll find.

I don't think the castle boss is part of grasslands... Anyway, it doesn't really have a death attack.

I was saying that to a post that seems to have deleted itself. I think it was about how the grassland series went straight to the Castle Boss. Thus I was saying that there was another stage layout between the boss and Grassland series.

I was actually surprised when that happened. This huge grey line fromed between GL1 and the Castle and you couldn't go higher than level 10 or so. Of course it was possible with a poison Sniper, but back then nobody knew about soloing a huge, overpowered boss.

Anyway, what about back to topic? I agree with the OP. We will get 20 more level for our rangers by the next megaboss. That should be nice.

Yes. Currently every megaboss had about 2 gameplay arcs before them. It seems like Desert is only one of those arcs.

If we have monster that attack on defeat we can have bosses with multiple forms!
Dark Core:
First Form: A blue mushroom with a new orb head. When attacked it will summon wheeles and shoot fire grenades. It is strong to physical. The wheels shoot pellets and are weak to physical.
Second Form: An blue x head bat. It raines thunder and ice.
Emperor of the Moon: He has one form for each species, but he is always white with a fairy head. He is the final boss.

I like the idea of mushrooms that summon enemies. That would become stupid if they spawned themselves, though. Thank God for common sense.

I don't think bosses with multiple forms would work.

Neither do I. Sounds a bit too... Deviant.

A video game with bosses without multiple forms is now deviant.

Yep. Talk about progression for you... But oh well. Stick Ranger has always been a 1-form game.

Well, if you REALLY want it to change form, you can have it spawn another form when its LP is about to reach 0...

Stick Ranger would be epic with a story line.
On Topic: Yep, the boss could spawn another boss when it dies. Maybe we could put that in for the next mega boss.

Well, if you REALLY want it to change form, you can have it spawn another form when its LP is about to reach 0... You could do that, but that barely follows a pattern. Let's say it spawns that new form when its LP is below 5000. It currently has 6000 and I go in with my God gunner and blast it with 11000 damage. What happens then? Theoretically it would spawn the new form since 0 is below 5000, but if its LP is 0 it would die. So that's a little unreliable and doesn't really follow SR guidelines.

So maybe it just spawns another form when it gets attacked? It would be kinda overpowered, but eventually people would find a way, like the castle.

*Edited
Name: Speedo [ Dragon-Type ] Specialty: It travels at a Superior speed, which the Melee Build can never manage to defeat it. It is immune to Ice and Poison. Attacks: 3 Waves of Spikes [ AT 1-1 ] Large Ice Spike [ AT 10-30 ] [ Freeze 50%, 5s.] Health: 35000 Tactics: Use a tanker to take all most of the damage, and Get the Ice Spike away from your main attackers. Its better to have a Magician or a Priest. Snipers won't work well as it won't hit much often as it's extremely hard to aim, but Magicians and Priests can do Bullet Guiding

That's boring too because all the other bosses we've already beaten have gotten boring over time. I'd like something creative...like two different bosses at the same time.

Nope doesn't work for me. All builds should be able to beat it.

Indeed. Four boxers ought to be able to beat this... It's pretty impossible to stop it anyway. Four boxers could still beat anything fast. Various tactics allow it.

I'd like to contribute: (before reading please note that there have been too few megaboss stages to really show any sort of strong trend) I noticed that the shortest path from the town the the castle is six stages and the shortest path from the castle to submarine shrine is six stages so far there are three desert stage in a path after the submarine shrine and i think the map could allow three more stages.
if you measure from the castle to the submarine shrine on your computer screen it is about 2 inches. if you measure from the submarine shrine out into the desert, it is clear that the 2 inches mark lands in the desert.

since the first megaboss was on land and the second was underwater, I think the third mega boss should either take place underground or it should introduce an entirely new stage type - "sky" or "air" where the stage takes place on clouds and the boss is flying.
if the boss is underground it should be a upgraded version of the cavern 1 boss.
LP: 50000 or 60000 AT: new attack - large needle 10-20* 5 bolt (fire) 40-40 *3 strengths: freeze, ice weaknesses:none lvl:60
if the boss flys:
LP:40000 At: ball 10-100 poison 5-5 10s(you're screwed!) strengths:poison, thunder, freeze weakness:none lvl:60
the flying boss should be a very large smiley bat
Im open to changes and criticism
