Well would you believe it? The PlayStation Store is still down as a result of recent cyber attacks against Sony, and now it has just been confirmed that the Xbox Live Marketplace has ‘somewhat’ gone offline too. Microsoft has already issued a statement on it, but they haven’t given a reason for the downtime. It looks like this has happened within the last hour, but it ISN’T affecting everyone. Some users can apparently still access the Live Marketplace, but others are not so lucky. It does appear to be a pretty serious problem though, as Microsoft has already issued the following statement to terrified gamers: “Users may experience difficulties with the following services: Browsing Indie Games from the Xbox 360 console or Xbox.com, browsing the Games for Windows – LIVE Marketplace on a PC, Browsing Games Marketplace from the Xbox 360 console or Xbox.com.” They added that they are currently aware of the issue and that they are working to resolve the problem. So what has happened? Did the hackers suddenly become bored of easily bypassing Sony’s security and decided to go after Microsoft instead for a greater challenge? Or is this your bog standard sporadic maintenance that none of us need to worry about? It will be interesting to see what Microsoft’s explanation is for this. If you are currently online on your Xbox 360, let us know what is happening on your console. Can you access the Xbox Live Marketplace?
