Strength Test 2010/11/27 03:53 Mystical Mood Ring 2010/11/17 03:17 Mexicana Fountain 2011/04/04 22:43 WWZ Doomsday Station 2010/11/04 01:51 Angel Wings 2010/11/13 13:22 yeah, I know virus stuff... gives you votes but somehow you feel dirty afterward. the Strength Test was at least completely original. I actually sat down and brainstormed what else from RL could be done using virus. Occurred to me that Carnival Games were fairly international and from there the idea sprang. other than that it was interesting to experiment with Artsy upload types(Mexicana Fountain and Angel Wings). Normally I'm more about functional design, but still managed to get in touch with my inner muse. WWZ Doomsday Station just grew out of a test for a Create Elevator. I never really did care for how it worked, but made a decent enough Base Defend upload.

yeah, just did my top 5 in terms of votes. I'm happy enough how they came out but not my personal favorites If I was going to list my own favorites, they'd probably be: Impossible Dream, Tree Pump House, Thunder God, Angel Wings and then Mexicana Fountain. dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/search/?o=n&s=Endy123&e=0&k=0&t=a&m=1298905this type of Strength Test is actually original on PG from what I can tell via searching. The basic idea is obviously the same as for Mood Rings and Random Maps, but it was never applied towards making a Strength Test before. it's also not as stupidly random as all the rest. Took alot of testing, but figured out you could rig the results to be more favorable. Sneaky, but more enjoyable for people and besides it's supposed to be a Carnival game after all.

no prob. I'm mainly just posting to talk about them, not really concerned about votes after this long. I really only focus on getting votes within the first 2 days after I upload. After that you're pretty much stuck wherever you happen to be.

When the one upload of mine with over 1k votes got on the weekly ratings, it actually got over twice the votes it did in a couple of days after uploading. I still think the uploads could be much better, though.

yeah, that would be the "pretty much" part. Once you have alot, you'll get alot more.
most of these uploads were part of a personal challenge.
Browse the wiki, pick an upload type, spend ~6 hours on the design and then try to gain as many votes as I can.
like a speed challenge to succeed at something you're unfamiliar with.
The Virus crap things absolutely rocked in that respect but the rest still did decent enough.

it just makes for a different sort of challenge to see how many you can gain with the least amount of time spent.

I really mean to do something in between the two extremes.
the 30 second crap uploads and the ones that hardly get any votes even after days have been spent on them.
take a random upload type from the wiki, research then combine the best aspects from existing uploads and finish it up with some kind of psychological appeal according to the target audience.
not hugely time consuming and you have the novel challenge of working outside your comfort zone.

when I analyzed the voting patterns it seemed that the main factor was the amount of time an upload took to perform it's purpose.

Yes, uploading at a time where everybody would be awake helps with votes.

That's more or less what noobs do: spend 30 seconds on an upload then beg for as many votes as possible. It's a shame that the voting system is so messed up with all the noobs on PG... I looked through all the monthlies and I think there has been a scam at the top of every one since Alphaepic uploaded " The Earth" in 2010/10. Actually, on the July one UC's ball course is top. Hopefully it will stay that way, but we're only a few days into July and I bet there will be some scams to come... Are you suggesting that "The Earth" is a scam? All it is is a decent upload with the word vote in it, no scamming anywhere.
