In regards to user Rock's argument.
It does not take much effort to conform to a specific badge guideline. If there were say, a stickied thread describing the requirements when it comes to making a badge, then I am positive that there would not be a problem when it comes to have all badges being the same.
Additionally, it would also not be difficult at all for staff member to manually check to see if a badge fits the prerequisites needed. All you must do is right-click on the badge and view the image info. It tells you the specific dimension of said badge.
I find that many of our current rounded badges are great works of art and should be kept somewhere, say the forum archives, if they were ever to be replaced. Yet, though I support this idea, I would recommend that the badges fit the design of the forum and relate to it in some sort of way, rather than just a white background with a (and I say this lightly) rendered texture effect. Perhaps the badges could have borders which resemble the forum's?

I guess I'll leave that there then >.> If we end up making them all then that one is already done I guess

It can even be something simple like this: Notice how the badge dimensions match GGoodie's. When placing a border, you should always give 2 px extra because that is where the border will go. That is, if you are using GIMP...

Nope, I'm getting a blank image.

I got into an arguement with GG the other day, and he sort of left before I could make my point clearer than I already had (which I'm sure was clear, but I may not have articulated it well enough for him to realise what I was saying. Regardless...). Basically, I had denounced the solid black line he was using for a border and the white-on-black-shadow text he was using. I did this merely because it was not in my taste (which isn't all that important, but i'm entitled to an opinion too). The arguement came up when he insisted that it was 'standard' and I mentioned that there was a norm, but not a standard, and the only important factor was uniformity between the new badge set.
Anyway, I guess you had to be here, but the point of me even bringing this up is that I feel as if he assumed the rectangular badges were going to replace the circular ones in official status. Now when I said that they weren't, he probably assumed I was speaking with some sort of authority as a staff member instead of using common sense - I understand that we haven't come to address this, but I assume its rather widely believed that the two forms of badges would be available in parallel.
Anyway, now that i've brought it up, I ought to hammer it down; I don't expect we will, but nonetheless, we shouldn't be replacing our old circular badges with the new rectangular ones (assuming someone makes a set, which i'll also get to...), but instead offer them in parallel, for users to pick which one to use. I highly doubt people will mix and match cirucular and rectangular badges, but they might wish to use the new shape or stay with the old shape. If we were to get rid of the old circular ones, I feel it would be a waste of fine art, not to mention major forum history - we tend to be nostalgic around here.
I also seem to have accidentally talked GG into believing there isn't a point to making these badges if they aren't going to be official. As I was saying, he seems to think being official and being used alongside the current badges are mutually exclusive. That may not be the case, but anyway, I digress. Goddamn my wandering train of thought...

Yeah, no, the circle badges aren't going anywhere. They will be offered along side with the rectangle badges, and designed with them too.

Yeah, no, the circle badges aren't going anywhere. They will be offered along side with the rectangle badges, and designed with them too. When this first started, I asked if we could have both rectangular and circular, but people shot me down, including you (though it's possible that people misunderstood me)... Oh well, anyways, yeah I agree, I feel like there should be a choice between rectangular and circular and that they should be both official.

We should make an official thread for this listing the badges, posting a dan-ball amount for each, and just get them all done so we can officialize them.

I wish we could just use someone elses. I think a few members have already done their own sets. And they look nice, particularly fox's.

Fox has specified that he doesn't want anyone else using his rectangular badges. I shall now begin putting his badges into my signature.
