The Forum's History
The forums were created in October 2007, by Frogmaster (The original forum owner, who left use for many years but has recently returned to just post as a normal member) She left the forums as it was almost dead back then. She handed it over to TheListo (Who became site owner), Linkzcap (Who became administrator) and Swearingworth (Who became graphic artist). The forums remained almost dead for a while until TSL arrived at the forums [Jan 2008]. Not realizing it was dead, TSL started posting everywhere he could in order to get Dan-Balls to buy things in the Dan-Ball Shop. (Which was extremely overpriced back then) He then found and old advertisement by Frogmaster which offered 50 Dan-Balls (Which was a lot back then) for every member you recruit, so he started bringing the forums to life! Even better than before.
Thus started the "golden ages". In the golden ages many new members joined, such as ShiningSilver (Who left then came back in 2009 then left again and now is back in 2010), Supermike (Who left, came back as Randomness, and left), Kill3r, Sandmaster (Vinster60 on chat), memzak (On June 21st), elton, M4 (Who joined around July), secret (The Wonderful Element Keeper), rubiks, Qwerty333, ganon, Exthara (He was the one who became the next graphic artist for a while) and RiftRipper (aka Monochrome, oZone, iROBIT and pizzaman). qwerty, TooManyNames(ArchZero, Zodaki, etc.), soleil, Kiwi (Known as Artik on chat), Aerodude also came to the forums around that time. Our forums also changed from the UDBF (Unofficial Dan-Ball Forums) to the ODBF (Official Dan-Ball Forums) [which might have been a lie made by Listo]. Also, the Nonjas sprung up on chat around this time, created when Listo was fighting off a swarm with a really big sword.
All was wonderful on the forums until TSL had to leave for California. Soon after that things started going downhill (very slowly and we didn't even notice it). TheNubzWars, Necrotising Fasciitis (NeonSaysRawr on Chat), SilentlyRandom and Mespiroth later joined. (four of the few girls on the forums, who mainly stayed on the chat). Slowly, many of the members left. ShiningSilver, kill3r, Exthara and Swearingworth. Elton was banned for a year for impersonating TheListo (and is now back). G, Linkzcap and Sandmaster all became inactive and only checked up on the forums every now and then, but very seldom posting. fox is thought to have joined about this time (but was absent for at least one stretch of time covering several major events). The forum seemed much less alive. (but we still hardly noticed) Around this time GV and V.I.R.O.S. joined us. This is also the time that the Nonjas transferred from chat to forum games (GV was the first person to post on the first game). Also, just before the end of 2008 I was the first person to reach 3000 posts and soon after Sandmaster got 3000 posts too. We were above the old ranking system.
Molopoy. He joined sometime in the golden ages. He seemed like a normal, nice member, and was active for several months. Eventually, vacon wanted to make an ODBF RPG. Molopoy volunteered as a coder, but did nothing. He had already stolen some codes for qwerty's forums, so qwerty warned vacon about him. When Molopoy did submit a code, vacon checked it for plagiarism, and sure enough it was ripped off some Russian site. He was removed as the coder and banned from the RPG's forum. When he threatened to hack the ODBF, he was banned there as well. A few weeks later, he brute forced a staff member's account and deleted all the staff members' accounts except TheListo! He was permanently banned and his name is now one of the swearwords of the forums, along with Kenny Glenn and Chatango (You Son of a Molopoy!, Molopoy This!, What THE MOLOPOY!?) {These swears later became less popular}.
1st of April, 2009. This was when TheListo (SiteOwner) Decided to play a practical joke on us, that go way out of hand. He stated a few weeks earlier that Proboards had stated that the forums were out-of-hand and illegal, and were going to delete them. When the day came, He made another forum (not on proboards) and put a redirect code so that whenever we came here, it redirected us to there. It was a disaster, many members left, he kept it redirecting for too long.... AND secret then started deleting threads, thinking it really was the end of the forums. Thus the Great Forums Deletion and The Great Forum Restoration Soon Followed. Later, Ozone gave his password to qwerty, who removed the redirect code. Some complete guests were hired as staff to restore the threads secret had deleted.
Things were looking grim for the forums. Most of 2009 to 2010 seems blurred together. Chronologik joined (later the owner of Rosasecta). ggoodie Joined and made the forums a new skin. TSL came back. Shining Silver came back, then left again a while after. Same with Supermike. So did fox, somewhere around this time. xxx, microfarad, tackew, nmagain, izacque (who later became graphic artist) and Regzal joined. Around this time, Molopoy returned, this time to only demote the staff members, but Listo forced him out once again. Pickleman, the forums' first programmer, joined. He also added a live track to prevent any more Molopoy incidents. The livetrack system was a large scandal.
Later, when the forums were dulling down, Listo's account was supposedly hijacked by one known as MeltedMetal. He threatened deletion of the forums within a month (sound familiar?) and replaced the chat. As it happens, it was Listo, testing us. Later, the staff drilled a third visit of Molopoy over the course of a few days, but as Listo did not hear about it beforehand it was ended quickly.
TooManyNames left. The forum at this time had the most high staff with qwerty, TSL, GV, fox and KuraiOorora all following orders from TheListo. We were gaining members such as ownedbyglove and Halfway to Zero. It was at this time that staff were probably the most uptight and strict with the rules, and much controversy began regarding the amount of staff were on the forum. Thus began the major staff cuts, involving a series of tests to see who would remain. The head admin triumvirate retained their positions, yet many were set back to smaller roles or removed entirely. Finally, ggoodie made another new skin (V2) for the forums. January 1st 2010, Drax, Phantom Zero and Vertigo joined the forums.
Things soon started to fall apart. Conspiracy regarding TheListo's position as forum owner was taking place the same time staff cuts were being finalized. One day images from the forum had gone missing that were originally hosted on ggoodie s former website, and many former members of the forum as well as a few anonymous were attempting to spam the forum as much as possible. Names were being thrown about as to who were the people that started the raid, and would soon split further into the community in the coming months. During the raid the admins shut the forum down into maintenance mode and went through the backups of the headers and footers to see if they could salvage any important data. Thankfully they were able to, and the process of preventing such an event from ever occurring again would be known as The Reform. Shortly after, KuraiOorora resigned as administrator due to personal problems, although he did return as Disgorged_Mech.
Then disaster struck. Listo resigned and made a new member (Lag) Admin, after much threat to delete the forums. He was a terrible admin and didn't know what to do at all, as he had no idea what kind of a forum he was walking into. Also, threads (Such as the Dan-Ball Shop, Element Request Thread, and the Forum Ideas thread) vanished. Meanwhile, GV and qwerty made this forum as a backup, in case anything happened, and also in order to move here if Lag messed up.
Lag had all of five posts, all of which were very thinly veiled threats, and fox posted a very impassioned and true post against him that has gone down in forum history, all the while opting to move to the backup forum, and not being discreet about his distrust of Lag. When many members had moved to the new forums, Chronologik made a banner to tell us to move to the new forums that would display to everyone except Lag or Listo. A few days later, the old forums (ODBF now meaning Old Dan-Ball Forums) were gone. Only the NDBF (or just DBF) were left. Lag blamed it on us violating the ToS of Proboards, but in fact we didn't (as we checked the code's validity on Proboards Support). Lag deleted the forums. All was lost. Until....
Our member disabled made an (almost) complete backup of the forums! All was not lost after all. We still had nearly all of all the old threads in backup (to which I helped add the nice skin) AND these new forums are MUCH more active than we were before. We are thriving now and if we keep this up, we might reach the same activity as the golden ages, or we might have already!
