Okay, icons.png is done for mine. I'm not telling you which icon is which so don't bother asking.
Terrain is officially done! I don't do weekly snapshots, so sadly the .png is jungle-incompatible. Also, what do you think of the new dirt textures? Are they better or should I keep the style of the old ones? You have to try it in-game to see what I mean... As the chests have separate files, they will still look like the default ones for now. I really like your dirt and your redstone torches.

Just discovered how to get transparency in Grafx2. So I'm basically disowning GIMP now.

16x16? 64x64? pfft, a game from 2003 has 4096x4096 textures already! no wonder minecraft is so pixelly!

That's 4096 by 4096 total, and that isn't even compatible with most HD televisions. They're talking about the textures for individual blocks, which are much smaller, therefore much higher-res.

If anyone still cares about this competition, I've since shifted progress of my pack to the Minecraft forums. You can view my thread here.

You really do have no idea how textures work, do you? You're comparing full screen texture to cube texture. Entirely different animal. Have you even used a 64*64 texture pack? At any rate, in the type of resolution you're talking about (actual screen resolution), minecraft works perfectly fine in all of those screen resolutions (fat chance finding a monitor with 4096 support though). It's more high-res than a lot of modern FPS games on consoles thanks to console limitations. If you're referring to the 64*64, though, that's resolution of texture per square meter. For comparison, here's a pic of Black Ops 2. That texture on the wall to the left of that picture? About the same as the texture of a similar wall in Minecraft with a 64x texture pack. Or, if you want to show a somewhat higher-res pack, this one is as good if not better than the CoD one. So, what was that 2003 game that had better graphics? Midnight Club II? Or perhaps Time Crisis 3? But of course, this whole argument is based on the assumption that graphics (beyond a certain point) are somehow relevant in a game. They are not, unless they're a major selling point. But you don't know the difference between texture sizes and screen resolutions, so you wouldn't be a good judge of that, would you?

I may start up a texture pack again, but I don't know exactly when I will start or what theme it will be. Probably just texturing things to how I think the game would look good. 32x, Still has the retro feel with a little more detail. And yes, I'm alive. Moving is busy shit you know.

Uh... is anyone still here? Is still even on these forums? If so, I've started a completely new texture pack which will probably be titled Multichrome. I've only done some of the blocks so far.

I certainly like the "Missing Texture" block. Not sure it's compatible with resource packs though.

Yeah, ever since the 1.5 update there's been "unstitcher" programs to convert textures from the sheet format to individual files. The format of my blocks image is the one used by an improved, but unofficial unstitcher on the MC forums.

I'm joining a team to make a texture pack so I don't have to take up the whole load myself. I may post progress seeing people actually check these forums still I was actually just coming back here to find any terrain.png I posted to prove I'm good at texture editing, since all those are long gone from my computer. And it looks like I didn't post any of the good ones here. Looks like I'm applying only with my Photoshop work from when I was bored xP

Well, good to see you're still into texturing. Best of luck with that team. I work with the texture artist team on the Broken Buttons, they accomplish much more than they could individually.

His teamjoining was only a month ago, it was the main texture pack that was years ago. Funny how it stays somewhat relevant.
Speaking of. Mdog, if you see this, how'd the app go?
