Jared awoke. As he opened his eyes he found himself to be very disoriented. He saw grayness in front of him. As he got up he felt a rush of pain come to his head. He pressed his head against the hurt, and felt wetness. He brung his hand in front of his face and saw blood.

Miriam felt her cellphone vibrate. After she was sure no one was watching she pulled it out and flipped it open. She saw that she had received a text. It read “Johny boy has bought a Scion Hako”.
Her face went white. That message was code for “Ari al Maida has built a dirty bomb.”

Jared slowly rose to his feet. He was dizzy, and there was a sharp pain in his thigh. As he looked around he saw that he was inside the ruins of a concrete building, and he by a pile of rubble that must have collapsed from the ceiling. As he looked he saw that the whole world seemed to be eerily quiet.
He looked around the room and then he found a door leading out of the room. He opened it and found a stairwell. He found that the stairs inside were dangerously corroded, missing large sections, but still he managed to swing himself up. At last he came to the top and found a trapdoor overhim. He pushed out at it, and found a great resistance before him, but he managed to overcome it and thrust the trap door open. As it opened a heap of snow fell upon him, and he shook it. Jared then hoisted himself through the moonlight into a winter wonderland.

Miriam met up with her partner, who went under the alias Jack Jefferson. When they came together Jack handed Miriam her weapons and then filled her in on what they were going to do. He had found an Ari al Maida base, and there they were going to disarm the terrorists, find a remote connection to the bomb, and follow the signal to the bomb, which they would then dismantle.
Together they walked to trapdoor leading to a cellar behind an old buidling and opened it. Bellow was the base.

Jared walked around the snowscape. There was buildings all around, tall sky scrapers, but they we all broken, and dark. Something was not right. It should not be snowing yet. It was the middle of September.
Jared then heard the ticking of his watch. He gazed down at it. The screen was cracked, but it still worked. It displayed the date as well as the time. It said it was July 4th.
***
Miriam fired two round into the last terrorist. She smiled as he fell onto the ground, dead. Once again another threat had been crushed, another disaster averted.
“Jeff, have you found the signal communicating with the bomb yet?”
“Yes I have.”
“Now go and trace the signal to the receiver.”
Jeff turned back to Miriam and smiled. He held a button and a collection of wires in his hand.
“No.”
***
Jared stared at the number. That was just not right. Something happened back in September, something that changed everything. Something that explained while he was now all alone, but he could not remember what.
Jared continued walking down the street and he noticed an unusual lump of snow. He kicked, and he gasped as he uncovered a slowly decomposing human corpse. Jared took a step back. There were similar piles scattered all over both sides of the street.
That’s what happened in September. Something that seemed out of this world had defeated mankind back in September.

“Jeff, what the hell are you doing?”
“Miriam, it is time for me to redeem mankind. Man has been sinful, and it is time to start anew. Someone had to supply Ari Al Maida with the radioactive materials. Someone had two leak the location of their base. We are the saviors of mankind. Miriam, join me. Together we can recreate the world in our own image. We can create a perfect world. We will save them all.”
“Jeff, you are insane!”
Miriam fired at Jeff, but her hand was shaking and she only hit him in the leg. Jeff appeared unphased by the wound.
“Don’t try to stop me! This is our redemption day! Why you can’t touch me now! Now I will press this button!”
Miriam pulled out a grenade to destroy her former comrade and the signal with, but as she pulled out the pin Jeff pulled the trigger. It was too late now, there was nothing left for her now. She let the grenade fall, and it exploded with the dirty bomb.
***
Jared continued to explore the deserted city, but he could find no sign of life anywhere. Blood laced his strides as it oozed from a wound in his leg. Finally a memory came back and it hit him. He was the one who killed them all, and he had survived the fall of man, doomed to witness the nightmare, doomed to be die all alone. There would be no raise after the fall.
