After staff-directed MotM, months of inactivity, and the influx of members who did not join while MotM was running, we have decided to open up Member of the Month. One major difference from the past is that all forum members may collaborate and decide on a candidate, rather than only letting staff choose. You can determine who was an ideal role model during the month that passed. Anyone who has not already received a MotM badge qualifies as a nominee. Members may vote for nominees up until 23:59 of the month's end in Forum Standard Time (FST = GMT). The person with the most votes for MotM gets the badge, 500 Dan-Balls, and recognition in the news fader.
Feel free to update the table as necessary, but make sure that only votes with an explanation are counted. Nominees | Votes with Reason | Satar Gaeoedoae | | Nmagain | | Rock | | Draxor | |

500DBs? That's a new prize... Although I have a feeling many people will vote for themselves.... ...but I am glad the MOTM is back!
I'd like to see how this vote progresses...

I'm not eligible: I have already received the MotM badge. I choose not to display it, but I have already won it.

Well, I hate to sound conceited, but I think I really deserve it. I've set up a shop and served four customers, suggested and designed 7 badged, made the list of Element and Non-Elements for the EE board, suggested most of the elements and non-elements on the EE board, and I think I'm now an Element Keeper, but I'm not sure...
So I nominiate myself.

Maybe one should make a list of who cannot be nominated since they were already chosen in the past to avoid mishaps such as voting for one of these persons (GV can't be nominated, for example).

I vote Rock, for his badges and work to help the forum.
Remember, this is for things that people have done WITHIN THE MONTH. It is a high honor, and not for people just because of their scrolling text or because they are admin.
See, this is why I preferred it when it was a staff-only deal. People are arbitrarily nominating just about anyone without listing any reasons.

Maybe we should ask that people don't vote for themselves, although I don't want to discourage good members from pointing out their accomplishments and ergo go unseen.
On the other hand, we should probably distinguish between votes and nominations, and require a vote to include two reasons for making someone member of the month.

That should work. So, do we restart it? If so, I still vote/nominate/whatever Rock.

Disabled, you don't know how it works. The MotM for October is elected because of their actions in September. No point being the MotM for October if you don't have time to celebrate it.
Anyway, I guess my point is WHY did you vote for Draxor? I'm fine with it if you just give a good reason or two.

Ok sorry, I must have been deceived by the title of this thread. But the initial post says "passed month", so it is for sep.

So for being an awesome member in September, you wait a month (for the voting) and if you win get it in November.
And if you were an awesome member in October you'ld only get it (if you won) in December....
Disabled, if you won would you accept the badge?

Alright, let's make this thread for the very month it claims - October! You have a full month to look for a role model in October, and if you can't find anyone, so be it. If you find someone, nominate that person. For any vote to count for the person, explain why the person deserves to be MotM. No explanation, no vote; no vote, smaller chance of winning.
I'm sorry I brought this thread out at such an inconvenient time. Would you rather that I lock this thread until an opportune time and forget its existence until too late, would you rather that a MotM be celebrated two months after their noteworthy behavior, would you rather have a full month to look for a MotM, would you rather have half a month to look for a MotM and celebrate a MotM in the same month it was chosen, would you rather celebrate a MotM for a month that hasn't come, or would you rather have no MotM?

What? No, this isn't for voting for a whole month. This was supposed to be at the end of September. If we pick quickly people an still celebrate their MOTM-ness for October. If we wait till November, then the MOTM of October will have zero time to celebrate. We should just lock this and make a new thread the last week of October, which would decide the MOTM for November.
We also need far stricter guidelines on who can vote and how they vote.
This month may as well be canceled and/or done the old fashioned way, though.

Heh.. this didn't work out too well... Although I have a feeling even if this thread is locked that this will turn out a success. There are many new members and many noteworthy members who deserve it.
So the verdict?

None. We have next to no reliable votes. We just wait for Veers or someone to get back to us and help decide what to do.
The old-fashioned way was based on merit, and generally done within a couple days. It left the MotM up as a nice surprise to everyone, and it gave them a full month in which to celebrate.
