Third Triumvir Member Voting
|
Post by ~Memzak~ on Apr 9, 2012 23:25:29 GMT
I think the acting triumvirate (Veers) should end the voting when more than 24 hours has passed without a vote. How about 48? Some people might not be able to check the forum in time and miss the vote, but then again it's their loss as they were the ones inactive. Also, if 24 (or 48) after a vote, this post must be disregarded for that "cool down" time of 24 hours or so? Am I correct? (seeing as this post does not contain a vote?)

VIROS, GET YOUR ASS BACK IN HERE (jk, get out.)
1. Well DUH, pRiok! 2. Memzak, because even though I know he's long since lost the vote, he DESERVES to be in my vote. 3. FoxtrotZero, because he scares me.

Shouldn't VIros just give his position to fox? That seems to be what he wants to do and fox has been staff for a long time.

Shouldn't we have at least one sign of democracy on this forum? That seems to be what the majority wants for a long time.

Agreed. Democracy is what this form needs. (Although it's already clear who's going to win anyway)
...but at least we are doing it the "right" way.

See, the way the democracy would work on this forum would allow any size majority rule it.

See, the way the democracy would work on this forum would allow any size majority rule it. And yet a forum is normally owned by a single or group of persons that can do as they please, without even considering how a community cares. It's normally their decision as to what goes. Whereas if we voted on who would be the site owners, that is another case.

We shouldn't really be thinking of an online forum in terms of strictly democracy or any other form of government. We're not exactly on the same scale as a country, so we can afford to be more lenient than an actual government. How this forum runs can include various rules and structures, but it should run on primarily what most forums would use - common sense. Granted, democratic tendencies should be encouraged; they make things fun for the Vertigo's of the world........and other people too.

48 hours has passed with no new votes. Priok is currently taking the lead with 7 votes, while Foxtrot is almost at a tie with 6 votes. Are we seeing any results soon?

Alright, since there has been a lull in voting, I presume the count may now be done. Assuming I'm doing the alternative vote right, the following is how I got to the winner. Phase 0: Question of the Old TriumvirThere were 18 voters, one of whom voted 2 hours and 21 minutes after he first registered. There originally were not enough votes to kick VIROS out, but VIROS resigned, so the second phase could go into play. Phase 1: Question of the New TriumvirAfter taking into account all of the votes, the candidates are as follows in order of first mention: - FoxtrotZero
- Priok
- M4
- Memzak
- Izacque
- Vertigo
- Modnaryltnelis
- Draxorion
- Monokr0me
- Omnl
The primary votes were counted.
FoxtrotZero: 7 Priok: 7/6 M4: 1 Memzak: 2 Izacque: 1 Vertigo: 0 Modnaryltnelis: 0 Draxorion: 0 Monokr0me: 0 Omnl: 0 Everyone who had the lowest number of votes was eliminated. The second round of voting began. Whenever a voter's primary vote was eliminated, his vote went toward the closest running candidate to the top of the voter's list, but since the candidates with the lowest number of votes had no votes at all, no votes had to be transferred as they were eliminated.
FoxtrotZero: 7 Priok: 7/6 M4: 1 Memzak: 2 Izacque: 1 No one had a majority, and depending on the status of the votes from the new member, no one had a plurality either. M4 and Izacque each only had 1 vote, so they were eliminated. The person who voted for M4 had Vertigo listed next, but since Vertigo wasn't running, the next person on the list was sought. That person had not listed anyone else, so his vote was dropped. The person who voted for Izacque had Priok next. Priok was still running, so the vote went to Priok.
FoxtrotZero: 7 Priok: 8/7 Memzak: 2 Regardless of the status of the vote, no one had a majority, although, depending on the situation, one of two people had the plurality. Memzak had the least number of votes of the three candidates, so he was eliminated from the race. One of the people who voted for Memzak listed FoxtrotZero next. FoxtrotZero was still running, so that person's vote went to FoxtrotZero. The other person who voted for Memzak had listed Izacque next, but since Izacque wasn't running, the next candidate on the list was sought. The next candidate on the list was Draxor, but Draxor was not running, so the next candidate on the voter's list was sought. FoxtrotZero was listed next, and he was still running. The voter's vote went to FoxtrotZero.
FoxtrotZero: 9 Priok: 8/7
Regardless of whether the new member's vote was counted, FoxtrotZero had a majority. Assuming the votes were done correctly, he is now the new Triumvir in the Triumvirate...

Holy crap. Even with the odds in my favor I didn't really expect this.
First of all, my commendations to all for various reasons. First, to everyone for having the democratic process go smoothly (which is, around here, quite an accolade). My gratitude for all who placed my vote on the ballot (don't worry, my checks will go through...). My congratulations to Priok, who made for a close second in the race, and who I am sure would have done most excellently if he had recieved the position. And I actually want to thank NMagane as well, who expressed his displeasure at my being elected, but did so in a very agreeable manner.
The fact is, though, NMagane is correct. As an administraitor I need to be, and hopefully will be, held to a higher standard than I regularly met as a rank-and-file moderator, and which I'm sorry to say I didn't previously meet of my own accord. I'm going to have to be sure my dealings are just and even-handed (i wouldn't say I'm particularly biased given most situations, but I am only human). I'm also going to have to be sure my activity is regular, and be more active about the forum, both to lead by example and to be acquainted with the important goings-on that occur from time to time.
Anyway, thanks again for voting me in. I'll try not to let you down, and hopefully I won't get stoned if I do.

That was astonishingly close. I thought it was a no-contest for Fox, but I guess when competing against Priok even Fox had some serious competition.
Of course, it only works out that way if the vote in question isn't counted, but for the sake of simplicity it'd be best if it wasn't.

If the vote to which you refer refers to the vote to which I refer, then the status of the vote shouldn't matter: either way, FoxtrotZero's 9 votes beat what was either 8 of Priok's votes or 7 of Priok's votes. Nevertheless, that was a very close election indeed and I would like to thank all the voters for contributing to the democratic process...

I derped in counting, that would be correct.
Anyway, anyone can vote for themselves. Naturally we're counting self-votes.
