New Forum Names - Stage 3
|
Post by Fringe Pioneer on Jun 19, 2012 16:58:59 GMT
Well, I don't vote often, but since I have clear preferences and since I too will have to be under this name, I at least want the name to be something reasonable. - Timesink Forum
- Quartz Code
- DBF
I would like to rally behind the Timesink Forum because it seems to be a name that accurately describes what happens to our time here and is altogether not so terrible a name as to leave a bad first impression. As a computer scientist, I personally wouldn't mind a forum that decides to take a computer-centric approach, so I have Quartz Code listed second. Finally, since I'm not too particular about the other names, I have DBF listed as a fallback vote since it's a nice reminder of our roots and is relatively simple...

I think the name needs to be short and simple. It needs to generally sound cool. DBF is good because it has the most meaning, as well as being short and easy to remember. I like Quartz Code and Timesink Forum simply because they are cool names. But yeah, I think DBF is the best one. 1. DBF 2. Quartz Code 3. Timesink Forum
hey wait.... did this voting end ages ago? lol

Yay, but now who will make the new logo/name thing on the top left-hand of the page?

Presumably the Unofficial Graphic Artist?

We don't really need anything in the top left. We could replace the top center circle with DBF, and remove the top left thing entirely.

HEY According to veers, "Pointless Posts is a sub-forum in The SEO Bay's Forum much like General is a sub-forum in the Dan-Ball Forum. The name of a sub-forum is hardly grounds for dismissing a name" This means that the actual results is a tie.

Alright, I'm going to run a quick verification of the results, although Pointless Posts, possible or not, still shouldn't have affected anything. Everyone's primary vote was tallied to produce the following first-choice options. No one choice yet has a majority, so no winner is selected.
DBF: 9 Quartz Code: 3 Design, Entertainment, Life, Technology, Artistics: 2 Ideas, Networks, Technology, Recreation, Entertainment, Programming, Interaction, Debate: 2 Galaxy Worms: 2 Timesink Forum: 1 Pointless Posts: 0 Space Dog Alpha Patrol Unit One: 0 Terribad Industries: 0 The Unofficial Dave-Box Forums: 0
All the choices that received the least number of votes were kicked from the list. Since they had 0 votes, there were no votes to transfer to the remaining choices. No one choice yet has a majority, so no winner was selected.
DBF: 9 Quartz Code: 3 Design, Entertainment, Life, Technology, Artistics: 2 Ideas, Networks, Technology, Recreation, Entertainment, Programming, Interaction, Debate: 2 Galaxy Worms: 2 Timesink Forum: 1
The choice with the least number of votes was removed from the list. Since it had one vote, and that voter (me) listed Quartz Code as second, the vote went to Quartz Code. No one choice yet has a majority, so no winner was selected.
DBF: 9 Quartz Code: 4 Design, Entertainment, Life, Technology, Artistics: 2 Ideas, Networks, Technology, Recreation, Entertainment, Programming, Interaction, Debate: 2 Galaxy Worms: 2
The choices with the least number of votes were removed from the list. One of the voters of DELTA specified Quartz Code as his next choice, and Quartz Code is still on the list, so the vote gets transferred to Quartz Code. The other voter of DELTA specified INTREPID, but it too is removed from the list, so the next preference was consulted. The next preference specified Terribad Industries, but it too was removed from the list, so the next preference was consulted. The next preference specified Pointless Posts, but it too was removed from the list, so the next preference was consulted. There being no more preferences listed, the vote was dropped. One of the voters of INTREPID did not specify any other preferences, so his vote was dropped. The other voter of INTREPID specified DELTA as his next choice, but it too is removed from the list, so the next preference was consulted. The next preference specified Timesink Forum, but it too is removed from the list, so the next preference was consulted. The next preference specified Quartz Code, and Quartz Code is still on the list, so the vote gets transferred to Quartz Code. One of the voters of Galaxy Worms specified Quartz Code as his next choice, and Quartz Code is still on the list, so the vote gets transferred to Quartz Code. The other voter of Galaxy Worms specified DELTA, but it too is removed from the list, so the next preference was consulted. The next preference specified Quartz Code, and Quartz Code is still on the list, so the vote gets transferred to Quartz Code.
In total, of 6 votes to be transferred, two were dropped and four were transferred to Quartz Code.
DBF: 9 Quartz Code: 8
There is now a majority, and the majority belongs to DBF.
Yes, Temporarily9 went through the results correctly, or at least he got the same result as I did. He apparently did not exclude any of the votes that he said would be problematic on account of conflicting with names. The vote is valid...

Correct, I did not exclude votes that were taken. Thanks to the AV system it wouldn't have mattered if I had, as none of them were winning, save Quartz Code.

will the forum be re designed now?

Board layout, maybe, and logo. If we had a skin like FDB we'd need a new one, but as it is our skin is indeed general. All we really have to do is replace the dan-ball logo with DBF and remove the "Dan-Ball Forums" thing.

Will the URL be the same?

I'm guessing it depends on whether or not proboards is still offering that option. If not, there's hardly any point completely relocating for the sake of a name change.

Even though it seems this forum is separating from dan ball, I should still advertise it on powder game uploads, right?

|
Post by Qwerty on Jun 25, 2012 4:00:50 GMT
We should advertise wherever possible, I think, including there. After all, we do still have a couple boards for dan-ball.

But why exactly change everything? That's what I'm not getting.

There's no point to do a URL change considering the loss, but there's no loss in simply changing names. Something essentially meaningless does not deserve the loss of the entire organization and all the posts of the forum.

Why? Qcode's the general forum, right? What's the point in changing the topic here when most of the people that wanted a changed topic moved elsewhere?

Frankly I prefer here to QCode...

Post by Qwerty on Aug 1, 2012 7:01:38 GMT
I'm just saying the name change seems a bit pointless now. Not to mention, I don't know if anyone still active here has the graphic design ability to change the logo, and dan-ball related activities are the source of a good portion of what activity is left. When a community changes, change with it, sure, but when it changes back, there's no need to change.
