This is a revival thread, if anyone is interested, of powder game laser tech thread, now for powder game 2.
The purpose of this thread will be to invent laser tech in PG2. Logic gates, memory, power sources, inputs and outputs, and other relevant technologies are all possible topics of interest.
For my first post, I will talk about power... I initially abandoned the idea of using laser tech in PG2 because of the difficulty of making a power source. Without wheel, it is difficult to get constant beams of laser. With the crystal update, which allows you to make colored lasers, I changed my mind. Colored lasers are cool. To solve the problem, I made a power source using clone, beam splitting along horizontal/vertical beam intersections, and compact OR gate collectors. I call this the HDLA-3/4-V1, High Density Lasing Array - three quarters - version 1. It is, of course, an array of collectors. It captures 3/4 of all incoming beams. That was the best I could manage while maintaining compact size. Here is the SET code:

In certain critical applications it's useful to have highly continuous beams like that. The acid certainly does a good job at that. Most of the time I think you could use it without the acid, although I have had bits switch in the memory cells I used in my old 8 bit RAM when the power input beams aren't very, very continuous. I did not know this trick, thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I just like how the two amplification methods work together.
Laser Beam splitting provides a nice compact feed for the Acid to further strengthen.
It'll function with either one alone, but it seems to work better with both.

Got it to start considerably faster. 6-7 seconds on Speed 1.
I think the Acid portion could be smaller still. Reroute some of the beams and we'd be able to use both sides of the Acid Clone.
Might also be an idea to try and mirror image it. Double the number of output beams using the same Clone.
Any ideas on a project we could apply it to?
I'm bad about thinking up stuff like that :/

Heck if I know Endy. I've made the two most complicated PG laser tech creations, both of them being RAM. I'd like to branch out from RAM but I always have difficulty of thinking up an application. If we could make a simple computer, that would be cool, but it seems difficult, perhaps even impossible. If we did make one, it would likely be 1 or 2 bit at most.
I was able to make some cool multicolored signals using crystal. That has nice laser display capabilities, obviously.

I think I'm going to try for the 1 Bit. 1 Bit ALUI got the 3 Gates(Not, And, Or) done. A lot of other parts left to figure out still though. In theory we could run simple programs off it. Be cool if we can get it working.

This took awhile   Switches are liquid activated(Soapy Size 1-2 recommended). Resettable, but can end up breaking. They really need more work. I am happy that they can be reset for a change, but still tricky to work with. Can write to A and/or B. Read back from them. Select between 3 gates(And, Or, Not) and send that answer to a separate memory cell. Note: Memory value would need inverting before being applied back into A. Technically could negate it each time but it'd be a pain. I'm pretty happy with it at present. Really want something that can run a decent sized program. Mainly would need expanded memory and a clock signal. Not impossible but would take some work. edit: This is annoying... The memory cell I ended up using can self-reset if given enough time while being read back from. Have to either swap it out with a different design or modify the laser strengths some. Edit: Swapped out the memory cells and fixed up the buttons. I replaced the memory cells with ones based on Microfarad's Tubes instead. Little bit bigger, much more stable. Semi-Clocked Version:  Using the word "Clock" loosely. Presently it resets A and B, then writes C(the last output from gates) to A, then Resets C. As the clock signal returns it is first reduced back to one beam(left corner gate). Just passing through the tubes can cause laser-duplication. That going on unchecked for continually looped laser... not pretty. As it exits it is amplified by the acid(to a somewhat known degree) to get it back to a strong beam so it'll work properly. Ended up having to slow the clock-controlled beams down. Decided to color them at the same time to make it easier to work with. I really want to do something more fun with the clock. Could have all kinds of automatic stuff occur.

I may or may not have quite a bit of time to play with PG2 today. Here is a low period, but short pulse clock. You can see the roles of the long clock tube and the shorter pulse shaping tube, emits a short pulse on the falling edge of a signal.

I have been rethinking my optimization approaches from optimizing space efficiency to optimizing input efficiency to match the challenges of PG2, in which space is more plentiful, but power lines are more scarce. I've also been thinking about clock pulses, frequency, and duty cycle, considering a sort of PG laser tech that operates on large time scales with low frequencies and synchronization. Interesting, but not likely to lead anywhere. I also have a potential design for a simple general purpose computer, but actually creating it might take some time. In the mean while, here is a new design for an XOR gate which requires no power inputs. It is a completely passive component, like the OR gate.

I'll have to check them out later, I'm away from my main computer at the moment.
A compact XOR gate would be good. I was able to draw out something that was two tubes fed into each other and OR'ed together, but it was pretty bulky.
I'm kind of thinking it might be better to use a "punch card" memory system instead. Something physical that blocks or redirects the laser instead. Second to the power source that would take up the most space.
I was hoping we could have a simpler switch that was laser activated. I was attempting something with Ice but it didn't pan out.
