You could use it as a teleportation device convert mercury to electricity then at the other end, convert electricity to mercury again! Although it's currently inefficient, it takes a few mercury pixels to feed electricity into the wire, but there might be a way to improve it.

I wonder if a virus ball charged with laser would also work? That would make a nice way to convert from an electrical input to a laser output.

I tried to charge a virus ball with laser, but... I'm not sure, actually. I think it's some sort of glitch. Try it for yourselves with pbhuh's design and you might get what I got. (See code below)
EDIT: Yeah, I tried it again. The original "charging" laser stays around a little longer than normal. It's a little bit awkward to say the least. It SHOULD work, but doesn't work in a "normal" way. Try it for yourselves. I'm sure someone can work something out with it.

EDIT 3: This will be the last edit. I promise. The deal is that when a virus-infected ball is in a place where a laser dot is, that dot will stay as long as the virus ball is there. Basically, it's almost impossible to work with. Super disappointing. Sometimes when the stars align, some will be released and they'll be consistent, but I don't see that happening in a real useful situation. Or it could be an effect between that and the fact that mercury bounces laser...

Well it doesn't necessarily have t be Mercury --> Electricity --> Mercury.
It could be Mercury --> Electricity --> Laser --> Mercury, then if you want, convert (using another virus ball) the mercury to your desired dot (water, soapy, oil, etc.).
It just depends on a Matter --> Energy --> Matter for teleportation, although I don't think it would be possible to achieve 100% efficient teleportation devices.
