The point I'm trying to make is that why cant members judge?Just because we are lower ranked doesn't mean we don't have opinions.

I assume you mean judging contests? Well...it's just a matter of trust. If we let ordinary members judge, anything can happen, like biased votes, poorly judged decisions, etc. Oh, and btw, I'm moving this thread to About the Forum-it doesn't belong here.

OK I'm fine with the move but your not getting to my point.I've already explained it to veers, but if you need a refreshment...The reason I started this thread is because staff aren't the only ones you can trust in judging,if you cant trust us,then why are we not ban?I've com up with a solution to make members discus the topics in judging,oh and BTW only the members the competition starters choose, will be elected not just anyone.

I know that some of you hobbits are trustworthy, but some of you just aren't. What if Listo got back onto the forums with a new name and IP address? And elected Lag in disguise to be a judge? They would destroy the contest, and probably do more than that if they ever got back on. We don't allow it for the same reason why we don't allow normal members have access to the things staff have access to. Some idiot would destroy the forums. Ever hear of

Yep, pretty much. We respect our members, but that doesn't mean we can let them in on everything.
Besides, winning a contest is so much better when it comes as a surprise.
Oh, and why do you need to make three threads about this?

Post by ~Memzak~ on Oct 29, 2010 8:04:46 GMT
Three? I only found two.
Although I do agree with the notion that staff only should judge. Members are respected, but they can't always be trusted. (As in they sometimes trolololoolololol) On bad apple spoils the bunch. Yes.

I only found one. OK,this is how it will work,(Veers has already agreed on it)There will be a private chat that can only be accessed by a password,if one of the member judges goes off and decides that they will join the competition well simply change the password so they can't access it.Now this is how we will decide the best judges to judge, first the starter of the competition will decide the judges, the mods will vote if the judges are fit for it,if they aren't the starter picks another judge, and the process continues until the judges are right and the number of them are equal to how much the starter of the competition wants.

Meh, sounds complicated but ok. It was much simpler if judges were just staff, but staff do take quite a while...
SO this solution is ok.

Fireball, why can't you just let things carry on as normal. Staff will be staff, members will be members, and if that means that only staff judge contests, so be it. It is part of their duty.
|
|
|
Post by ~Memzak~ on Oct 29, 2010 20:52:40 GMT
Well it is less complicated that way and I do like less complication... but I also like being able to choose...
I can live with only staff being judges, but it would be nice if we could judge too.

I just don't like the idea. If we trust someone enough to judge a contest, why not just make them a staff? If you participate in a contest you're not allowed to judge it anyway.

I believe (most) members are respected by the staff, but to me it seems some staff enjoys the two-class society in this forum. IMO staff is supposed to merge doubleposts, move threads to appropriate forums, delete the occasional nonsense thread, warn/ban users, care about the forum code & DBs,... but thats about it.
If there is a special event, let the users participate equally. Contests can be judged by normal users, MotMs can be voted on by users, everything that doesn't need mod privileges can be done by users. In those cases you should of course see, that everything works in a proper way, like discuss about rules for contests and MotM. And mods are even allowed to force their opinion and rules on us in some cases, but they better are good reasoned. "Its a mod thing, thread closed" is not a good reason BTW.
In the last 24 hours there were 6 staff members online and 40 Members. Thats 1 staff for 6.5 members. Other forums I visit have a quote of around 1:1000. And to be honest, when there are thousands of members I don't care if the admin is an idiot, because they are much less likely to post in the threads I'm interested in.
So if you don't want us to feel like second class citizens, don't try to be moderatators, try to be members with moderating capabilities.
On a sidenote, I'm pretty annoyed by people who would like to be moderators and post something like "memzak locked" but they of course can't lock topics (for good).

Wait if they are in second-class then who is in first? And thats what I'm trying to change,to me,members are treated like they don't have a purpose (unlike memzak) we have no capiblities to ban ,judge,or even decide what on this fourm, should change.
It is obvious that rock doesn't understand, but Veers agrees, and memzak,The only thing that will get this idea as an actual form rule is to first make a chat with a changable password.

What? "They second class"? What I meant was, we the non-staff guys are second class and the staff is first class.
Thats a good description.
I don't really understand what you meant with the rest of your post.
And because I probably forgot to mention: Not every mod is like that all the time, but most of them are like that sometimes... at least thats how I feel.

I admit that users don't have the capability to ban, although a forum of all staff would be necessary to allow all members to ban, and not all members are trustworthy enough to be entrusted with bans (e.g. the ones who require bans), and staff are rule enforcers that occasionally require bans to do so. Is everyone a police officer, the law enforcement of society? Not only that, but anyone who knows anything about the person about to be banned can always voice his concerns and contribute any testimonies that pertain to the user about to be banned, thereby contributing to the judicial process. Indeed, one or two users took advantage of that right in the Neutral Chat while discussing with Kuraikiba his various convictions.
I admit that users are not capable, as of yet, of judging, although that is under discussion now.
I disagree that users can't decide what on this forum should change. I am always listening to new ideas (e.g. this), and have even implemented a few changes desired by new members or otherwise took advice from members more qualified than myself (e.g. when modifying the H/F, when making some of the new badges, when publicizing the nomination process for MotM, etc.). Why, the forum even has a thread specifically made for receiving suggestions from members.

Member Rights! Hellyeah!
But seriously, Moderators need to do better work. If someone double posts don't just say that is against the rules. Give him a warning and merge the post. Of course, The Administrators work hard for the Forum. But the other Staff need to do something.
EDIT: I don't like how Rock calls us "ordinary members". I think some of us are disrespected. Even i can suck up to most of the Staff but i am still ignored and threated like a newb. I just think Rock is insulting me.

Besides, you are failing to take into account the surprise factor. Would you rather win an award because all your friends publicly voted for you, or because one day you logged in and saw the announcement?
We take all the suggestions people want, but some things are better left a surprise.
Besides, I see two flaws with that plan: Finding a properly secured chat, and judging contests on it. With the current contest system nothing short of a board will suffice.
Although I must agree that it would make it go much faster.
As to saying the staff enjoy a two-party system and consider "regular members" like Memzak to be useless is just plain insulting. We have the highest regard in many of our members. Many would be staff, if we didn't have too many staff already, as Disabled has pointed out.
Members are treated as they should be: The core of the forum. Everything (okay, maybe not EVERYTHING) we do is essentially for you guys. If it wasn't we would only allow staff to participate in contests and shops and the pumpkin hunt. Do you think any of those would be possible if staff existed soley to ban people?
If you think staff don't care about the members, you seriously need to take a look around. Oh, and remove the badges, not use the shop, give back any dan-balls earned from contests or pumpkin findings, ignore the MOTM...

Nmagane, this thread is not excrement. Fireball9903, Nmagane is not excrement. Fireball9903, I wanted to point out the very things you mentioned and expressed my own ideas about them. How come you get to do so in your own post, but hypocritically reprimand me for going off topic with opinions that differ from yours? Why, you and others who "posted off topic" without directly relating to a new judging scheme aren't being warned for doing so before I did, and yet I am being told not to go off topic after you get to do so? Is it because my opinion differs from yours while another person more or less agrees with you? Well, one reason I'm considering your idea is because the current scheme is too slow and requires improvement.

Meh, I'm still with my old opinion. Let the staff do it for simplicity, except another method would be nice. The only problem is that the other method just adds more complications.

That post was mostly aimed towards Disabled, but thanks. The main issue is that we fail with complicated stuff. Just look at the halloween pumpkin-finding thing. There were serious communication problems there.

Non-staff members has the same effect. Ultimately, any term used to differentiate the two will lead to insult on one side in this sort of discussion.
