How exactly does the karma system work, anyway?
Post by Alonso on May 28, 2011 20:37:42 GMT
If, you are good, you get karma eg helping, you can ask but don't and you get smited which you means you lose karma for stuff like trolling.

what I meant was, can we exalt/smite multiple times?
Post by Qwerty on May 28, 2011 22:10:48 GMT
Yes, but it's not recommended. Spam smiting and spam exalting results in the same karma being removed from yours and, if large enough, a warning level.

I thought we agreed that it gets a 5 + the amount of smites/exalts %, regardless the size?
Post by Qwerty on May 29, 2011 4:59:34 GMT
Yeah, but the size is what defines whether it is spam smiting/exalting or not. After all, two exalts half a day apart for separate things are not exactly spam.

Post by Rock on Jun 1, 2011 2:34:11 GMT
Yeah, more than 1 smite/exalt for the same reason is considered spam smiting, unless the recipient replicates the catalyst on separate occasions.

Or if they have annoyed you on onething enough to give you a second, like super evil might get 2 instead of 1, as a point.

Post by Rock on Jun 1, 2011 22:22:49 GMT
No. One smite per incident.
Post by Alonso on Jun 4, 2011 19:36:32 GMT
So, what if in the incedent he says two bad things.
Post by Rock on Jun 4, 2011 21:05:30 GMT
Is there something wrong with you? That makes no sense whatsoever. ONE smite/exalt per incident no matter what happens/is said. Have I made myself clear?

Post by Draxorion on Jun 4, 2011 21:30:07 GMT
Only karma acquired from a contest may allow distribution of more than one karma per situation, I assume?

Of course, the staff wouldn't do it if it weren't an exception.

You can lose/gain more than one karma in one incident, by different members, of course, remember what happened to sparkpowder?

Post by Rock on Jun 5, 2011 20:53:06 GMT
Didn't it happen to you as well? You had close to -20 when I first came.

Post by nmagain on Jun 5, 2011 20:59:24 GMT
I was asking people to smite me at that time, ask Phreek, I think he remembers.

Oh, yeah, I remember you saying something like that.

Well, it never increased while you were away: who gives karma to someone who isn't here?

Nevermind but i do think i deserve some more.

I agree. It's a pity some people smite random people. Posting more and having useful posts does help you gain more karma. Just a friendly tip.
Also how long you have been on this forum seems to affect it to, since karma is kinda cumulative.

At this point karma is nothing more than a number in your profile to me.

Post by Alonso on Jul 4, 2011 23:02:24 GMT
If you could see it, but seriously, what is the point of karma if there is so much spam karma/spiting?
Post by Fringe Pioneer on Jul 17, 2011 11:15:26 GMT
Yes, especially since the Security Log indicates who karma-spammed who and when, and since anyone who uses my admin account can access the Security Log...

Karma is a bit much since people will smite over and over and over. At least it seems that way on Sparkpowder...

For a few weeks, I felt the same way, Rock. Now that I've noticed it, I don't really care enough to do anything such as smiting or exalting people... Maybe I should in the right times...

I've actually never smited or exalted anyone besides GV once. For having a good point in a board. That's for all the years I've been here actually...

I recall smiting people once in a while for doing useless things, or karma, more rarely, for more improvements, helpfulness, suggestions, etc... Archium, what happened to your other Karma?
