Just a little while ago, I decided to come to the forum while at my friends house. I saw the chatroom and thought, "Let's test how receptive we really are to people.". So I made a new account and started to talk in the chatroom, while acting like a new member. Within seconds I received comments about how stupid I was, and how I was not welcome. Admittedly, I was pretending to be somewhat ignorant, and intentionally made spelling mistakes. However, that DOES NOT warrant the reaction I received from the people in the chatroom. I do not believe that we should EVER show disrespect and/or contempt towards a new member for any reason, as it gives us a horrible reputation. How can anyone possibly complain about our lack of activity with a greeting like that? I have been a long standing defender of the chatroom, but after what I just witnessed, I agree that it either needs to go, or that we need more reliable moderators. If we let this place fester how it is, this forum is going to die.

Seeing as I'm the one who started the flaming, I'd like to apologize for my behavior. I'd also point out it's best not to flame or flame back at me, because I tend to take things out of hand.
PS: I think you mean NEVER, not EVER.
Nevermind the crossed out part, misread the post.

I only caught the last bit of the issue when I came in. But I want to make the point that not all of us on the forum are unwelcoming. I don't know if you noticed or not, as you might have already logged off of that account, but I sent a PM in chat apologizing for the behavior, and a 'Welcome!' to the newcomer (or at least what I thought was a newcomer).
I do agree though, we need more active mods who are going to set things right and not possibly add to the issue (I'm not aiming this toward anyone, but I think there may have been a case of this if there was a mod on the chat). Also, people need to control their tempers a whole lot more. I heard a few people (not saying names) saying that they started flaming because they were flamed at back.
¬__¬
yeeeah... I'm just gonna say that if a person appears to turn out to be just a simple minded flaming troll to you (especially on the chat), the best defense is not to flame back, but just stop. Just wait for two minutes and most likely they'll get off (unless of course another person is still flaming the flamer, in which case you can send them a PM over chat telling them to stop. If they ignore you, then wish them good luck in trying to tame a troll...)
So I agree with SD, we reeeeally need to appear more welcoming to newcomers if we want more forum activity.

Funnily enough, we're planning the introduction of new mods in the staff lounge at this moment.

Qwerty, no offense, but watch out cause a lot of these Threads are raising. I think a lot of fait in the Staff and the new Forum has dissapeared. I'd suggest you'd watch your steps better. Maybe try to ask a few Members for their opinion even if all Staff approve it.

And I think I will completely ignore your post. By "A lot" you mean two, and neither of them criticize the staff, with the exception of this one, which simply states we don't have enough on chat (that moderate well). So, no, I will not "step carefully".

I'm not sure if this would be the right place to say this, but since it seems that we're all agreed that we need just a few more moderators on the chat, I would just like to state that I would be willing to carry out this role. I'm not asking to be a mod (I know the 'rule'), but I want to be clear that I do want to be part of clearing up this mess/issue/concern/just a small simple 'problem'-like thing (whichever we feel that it is). EDIT:Never mind, this is not the place to say this.
Of course, I'm now feeling that, if anything, this is far from being the fault of the moderators. I mean, I guess the mods/admins have a kind of superiority that makes them as examples for the other members....But even so, I'm pretty much of the mind now that the only 'offense' the mods gave was by not being there. That is, if there weren't any mods there at the time....If there were, then I still stand by what I said before.

You are correct in that this is the wrong place to say this, and while I think you would be a good mod, you seem to have been gone for a long time, so you'll have to be here awhile longer before you can be considered.

I second that statement, in T9's advice for being here a bit longer and getting a bit more adapted to here. Apparently... He's an old member?

Yeah, SB is a really old member. He's just been gone for a long time.

Yeah, but as far as getting adapted, I'm pretty much there. I've been on and off of the forums many times, and I've noticed a recurring theme on here no matter who is a member or not, so I'm sure that it didn't take long to re-familiarize myself again to forum life.
But yeah, I can understand the fact of me needing to be here for a while longer - I need to show that I'm going to be active before I could be considered at all.
But anyways, back to the topic, if we weren't already done with it.

If anyone asked for help I would help them although I have not been asked. I wish that I can help but I am still quite new.
