Some weeks ago, the hinge on my laptop broke. This alone was enraging. The laptop is not very old and I have treated it with great care. It should NOT have broken. Though the problem looked simple enough, I decided we should probably have it taken in and done by the pros. So we took my computer into Seattle Laptop. We had just bought a wireless card for a different computer there, and the nice man at the counter had tightened up the hinges on it free of charge. So I told my dad I wanted to have my laptop taken there, since they seemed to be nice, honest people. Well, when we took in my laptop, they said the hinge would take 10-13 days to repair and would cost $160. That seemed a bit too long, and a bit over priced, but they said it was because they would have to order a new bezel for the screen, which would be a bit pricey and take a few days. A few days over the 10-13 day time frame they had given us, we called back. They said they could not find a bezel for under $300 or something like that. Well... Something didn't seem right. It's only a $500 or so laptop. So we called again and said we just wanted them to put all the broken pieces back together like it was. Well, they said they couldn't do that. The broken pieces wouldn't go back like they were. But they can hand us the pieces like they are for $40. My dad is now going to Seattle Laptop to pick it up. I have read reviews for this place online, and some of them aren't pretty... www.yelp.com/biz/seattle-laptop-seattle-2
I'll give you an update when I know more.
Edit: Well... We got it back. I'm posting on it right now. Does that mean it's fixed? NO! I have it hooked up to an external monitor. They took apart stuff they didn't need to, and then, unable for some reason to get it back together, gave it back to us like this, with it's entrails dangling all over the place and a piece of paper with instructions on how to use an external monitor. AND, we paid $40 for this. On top of it all, those (insert derogatory term of your choosing)s apparently lost 14 of the screws to it. It doesn't even look that difficult. Me and my dad figured out how to get it back together, we're just trying to find cheaper parts at the moment.
