Just noticed it, how long has it been there? And do you thinki this will bring any changes? Maybe more community members?

...No. No way. Separation of life and forum is VERY important.

That's Church and state, not life and Forum.

Separation of church and state is important. Separation of life and forum is just as important. We can't get our personal lives tangled up in the forum in any way whatsoever. So, no, your not-so-subtle request that we link the forum to a facebook group is denied.

So you're saying you WANT your personal information posted all over the forum? There's a reason we have a rule against that, y'know. Also, nice double post you have there.

I say no to social networks on the forums, mainly because I hate them.

Qwerty, just because your dad thinks everyone you meet online is a 30 year old internet rapist and that he monitors your facebook, doesn't mean other people might have completely different lives.
Although I for one (if social networking comes to the forum) would not share my personal details with the forum. Unless I create a new facebook account specifically for this forum...

Don't you see? It is required to share your personal details just to like the page. How would you like it if I had a long list of the true names of everyone on the forum, and the ability to pretty easily obtain their addresses and other personal information? That would be what that is. We have a rule against posting personal information for a reason, and this would fall under that. Safety is a serious issue.

I am of the opinion that we should not connect to social networking sites on account of seeing the names and information of real users, and subjecting friends of anyone who joins to nothing in the best case scenario, spam in the typical scenario, or stalking and worse in the worst case scenario.
Maybe I am paranoid, but did you see what happened when TheListo put together reality and forum life? Many of us can attribute our success to separation of life and forum, and I fear that Facebook et. al. can destroy this separation.
If there were a social networking site that supported aliases rather than real names and real friends, then I would be more open to the idea, but not knowing of any such social networking sites, I believe we should not risk our success by connecting with a social networking site.

Two admins, plenty to override you and can we please lock this thread now? I am sick and tired of being flamed and ridiculed for attempting to be safe on the internet.
