Yes indeed the game from 30 years ago. I play it... It's quite fun. (only about a couple MB so it's quick to download and play) It's a step by step game with many commands, very hard too. I suggest you just test everything out and see what does what and figure out everything for yourselves... Oh and if you like you can download a texturepack, if not you can stay with using the ASCI version. Good Luck. It's quite a hard game to get good at.

... Did Memzak just start a NetHack thread? *high five* My favorite rougelike of all time! Playing it for a year now, STILL haven't even reached Rodney yet :c but allot of fun, playing dwarf fortresses adventure mode reminds me of a insanely less hard, more complex version of it which makes me smile . Anyway, good game, download it now! P.S. don't give up now I know people that have played since it came out (on and off) and still haven't beaten it.

My friend came SO close to beating it. He had the amulet and was a couple levels away from level 1 (so that he could beging the accension) and then a trap door weakened him and he was killed by a minotaur! D:
He had 900K points the highest I've ever seen. (his next best game was only 99.8K points so it was quite a big difference)
My personal highscore is...
1 17556 Sendor-Val-Hum-Fem-Law died in The Gnomish Mines on level 10. Killed by a gargoyle. - [88]
I thought that the gargoyle would remained trapped in the beartrap... turns out he escaped in 1 turn and killed me in the next. Even though lightning hit him from my mjolnir... (Yes I got one after sacrificing gnome lord corpses) I still died... D:
