Right, well, I'm the Press Secretary for Atheism Club at our school, but I can't make posters for crap. This is where you guys come in. At 1000 DBs a poster, I would like you guys to make a poster for our club by, say, Wednesday of each week. I'll try to let you know what to make the poster about as early as possible. Don't worry, I DID tell them I would find someone to make it, not make it myself. Please try not to make the posters too insulting. They do have to be approved and hung around the school. Also, note that for each poster there should be included "Meeting this Thursday in room 882" and "dhatheism@gmail.com". Here's some previous posters: img864.imageshack.us/img864/1650/posterfn.pngi51.tinypic.com/16c86qa.png (Note: Rejected)
Next meeting is... I'm not sure, actually.

Awesome, but perhaps a footnote could be added to the effect that we don't actually believe rabbits lay eggs? Some people at this school are stupid enough to think we actually think that.

Quick notification, it would be great if the poster(s) could be in by Monday. We do need time to put them up, after all.

Does the poster have to support your cause?
|
|
|
Post by Qwerty on May 2, 2011 0:03:13 GMT
Our "cause" is simply atheist awareness. It's to convince people to attend the meeting. Obviously it shouldn't oppose our cause, so yes, to an extent.

Here's mine for this week: i51.tinypic.com/16c86qa.pngIt's perfectly proportioned for a sheet of paper, so just print it portrait style and it should work fine.

It's an awesome poster, yes, but unfortunately the club president turned it down. Too insulting against religion, apparently. However, I did get quite some interest out of it in English, so all is not lost.
It's too late for this week. Maybe next week.

It is not offensive. Tell your president that he/she has no idea how not offensive it is.

Yeah, that's pretty offensive. Perhaps you should include the entire scripture, which is referring to how to deal with nations you are waging war on, and how to deal with the sinful cities that refused to peaceful terms (Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, etc.), and the fact that the verse is from the old testament.

I did look at it in context. It seemed to be only more offensive when I did so. The part about not using apple trees to make siege weapons I can understand, though. Most sensible thing I've read in the bible so far.

If your own scripture offends you, then you probably shouldn't be religious. Also, I must say that putting it in context only makes it worse. At least out of context you can speculate that God might be telling you to kill criminals or child molesters or something...

I'm saying signaling out a specifically part, yes not even the entire scripture, a part, of a violent scripture is basically twisting our own words against us. And since you didn't seem to get it, that's what I found offensive. And had you read what had been going on in these nations, it would make sense to you. These people were doing just about everything God had said not to do, leading horrible, sinful lives.
Let's put in a more modern perspective: Say these people were nations full of terrorists, who spent their days shooting at each other and plotting against other nations, building horrible weapons to wipe out entire nations. We (US gov't) would have tried to get them to stop, but had they not, do you not think that military action would've been taken? Do you not think we would try to capture or kill the terrorists, and if they were captured do you not think that we would try them, and they would be sentenced to death? All I'm saying is that God created us to obey him, and when you fail to do that, even with multiple chances to repent, you are at the Lord's mercy.

Women and children need to be utterly destroyed as well? (Women wouldn't be apart of the wars back then)

Bah old testament is old testament. I spend the majority of my time reading the new testament, so I'm not to sharp on Deuteronomy, but no doubt the women were prostitutes or tarot readers or something, and the children probably were obsessed about false idols.

Y el tema. Esta semana fue un fracaso la reunión, así que la próxima semana es otro vuelva a ejecutar la moral, pero menos "ofensiva" esta vez. Yo estaba pensando en algo relacionado con la Inquisición española y como nadie los espera.

This week's poster is up! This one is about the movie Religilous. We will be showing part of it in the club. Essentially, we need a poster that says that and somehow shows what Religilous is. Please leave the room number blank in this one.
