Intermission 1
Mercury, a newcomer recruit to the Empire of Powder's Armies. He is a unique element player. Meaning he's the only one of his kind. He has long charcoal black hair and steely light grey eyes. He would stare you down. And he didn't talk to you much. His misty eyes though. Said he was always thinking about one thing.
I am speed. A codename for me, a laser recruit. We aren't unique fighters. But Front Liners. I have bushy red hair. And Blush A lot (Wonder Why). I was assigned to be Merc's Partner til he and me both graduated. But, I didn't think I'd have to worry. I'm better than average. And Merc is a lot better than I am. So I didn't think I'd have anything to worry about. untill a few months into the Tests. We had already missed one test.
We missed the last promotion test because of Merc. Which was a tad unusual. Every day he was getting a tad worse. And he tried a little harder. He tried harder at what seemed like making himself worse. He was holding himself back in a more literal sense. Which was strange. He was always top in his class. When he first started. Now, he was never really talkative. But, lately, he's been getting more and more detatched from the world around him. I got curious one day and Asked him.
"Hey Merc, why'd you let yourslef fail out there on that last testing. I mean. It looks like your trying to fail yourself. " He didn't answer back. A usual response. He didn't even look up though. Which ticked me off. " Tell me man. it's your fault I'm still here. ". He just got up. Near crying. But, he was laughing too. Though very quietly. He just walked out the room. A little fast. " I'm going to go get a drink. I'll be back...eh, soon." "Whatever!" I yelled. First of all, he never gets drinks. And secondly, it's too late in the day. All recruits have to bed in 20 minutes." And the nearest water fountain. 150+ Yards thru crowds of recruits. Though tonight the halls were hauntingly empty. A ghost town.
He went out, slamming the door. I pad locked the door. Only the night admin could get in now. I thought it right I got answers. It's stupid considering he won't tell me how I didn't pass the recruit test. I'd find out. I broke the lock on his door to his office
. I pulled out his drawer in his desk. Lady luck shined her light on me. I found 3 things. All 3 of course, were disturbing. First was a picture of a man. He had long black hair. Straight. And a pale mature face. He had no wrinkles or anything of the sort. But his eyes were tired. Showing his age. He had pale grey eyes. And he wasn't smiling. But near frowning in the picture. The picture was simply signed. " To Mercury, My Greatest Acheivement." I skipped off to the second item. Which was possibly the worst thing he could be in possession of.
I gasped! An Ion Laser Hand Rifle in his Drawer. Amazing that the nightman never found it. These are dangerous. And are punishable by death. In any possession, without trial. This was smart fighter technolegy. Which they went extinct decades ago. Lastly, I found a Journal. I guessed it was his. But, I never really saw a title and author. I picked it up. And started to read.
But, just as I opened and skimmed. After a skipped heart beat. And an opening of the door. I sprinte out of the office. And dropped the journal. His journal which I skimmed onlyhad a few words. "Kill Powder." Powder was the Minister for he Empire of Power. Theres only one of his kind. He is what made this empire great. We are now the sole organized empire in all of Dan Ball. To kill Powder is the greatest sin. To even think so. It was to late.
I didn't know what to do. My first thought was to run or it. I cannot be in knowing of this. But running off campus is traitorous and deserting. Bu- SLAM. The door opened. The Nightgaurd was there to my releif. "Get in your bunks and sleep". "Yes Sir"
Once he left. I got in my bunk. It'll be alright tomorrow I thought. I hope it will be...
5 Hours Later...
Intermission 2
I woke up in the middle of the night. "Oh god its so spinning" I was out of it for about 2 minutes. I should've been out of it longer. But something woke me up. BOOM! An Explosion came from the Armory and the Command Station. I got up quickly and clumsily and put on a battle suit. "C, mon Merc!". But, then I noticed Mercury wasn't in the room. I ran into his office. Everything was gone in his drawer. The journal, the picture, and worst of all, the rifle...
Intermission 3
"Oh great!" The first thought was that Merc was going off to defeat the attacker. But, then a much worse scenario hit my imagination. "Merc's the attacker..." I whispered... Then, I sprinted off with by training baton. I could try to use my laser. But, I can only last a few seconds a day. Not near enough to defeat any laser rifle. BOOM! Another explosion from the department right next to my building. I ran past the crowds fleeing from the fires. Where is the water men. They should be here to put out the fires. But, there are too many fires, I thought. Damn...
BOOM! Another Explosion. It came from the inside of my building. I was flung out of a burning window. And landed on the cold pavement 2 stories down. Everything went darker and darker. My body got numb. And everything got heavier. Heavier...heavier. And I blanked out...
Intermision 4
I woke, amazed I was still alive. But, I could not move. Something is wrong with my spine. I can't feel my legs. "C'mon damnit move" I felt myself kicking. But my legs didn't move. Are my eyes deceiving me or am I a cripple. Damn. DANGIT. Then in the distance. I saw a Aegius. A Nuclear Bomber. Why is it here. Whatever is here. Attacking. The government wants dead. Great. That means I'm fish fry. "C'mon man", said a voice. It was familiar. It was Merc's.
" Get up dangit." He grasped my shoulder and picked me up as If I was nothing. I yelled in agony. "It'll feel better once I get you to OMEN. "He picked his rifle which I just now noticed he was carrying and shot at the Aegius Bomber. Just a few miles away. It took 2 shots and it exploded in mid air. With huge shockwaves that nearly knocked me off. But, as if nothing happened. Mercury just kept running. And held me tighter. "Stay alive for a litle longer" "Wha-" It was then I noticed my entire back skimming along my left leg was bleeding like a crazy.
Oh my god. I don't have long. I don't think any docter could get me to come back. " Why the hell are you doing thi-", Again, things went black and heavy. And I lost sight and feeling. But, I still remained hearing for a few seconds. All I heard. Even though of the explosions, screams, and fires. Was Merc's Voice. " It's my own life experiance. Not yours. I just don't want my only friend in this hell hole to die!" I felt like smiling. But, this was a crime. We were done for. Dead. The government was looking for us now. They'd easily swipe us off the map. And I'm bleeding like hell. I'm going to die in a few minutes anyway. This base is so remote. Just then, I blanked out.
Inermission 5
"He's just a human, don't do anything harsh professor.", "Please lil' M calm down!, he is past normal medical comebacks, I need to atleast implant something in him. He won't last long anyways. He's lost blood, muscle mass," "He's a human being!" "Harshness, he's a PG Player now. He is smarter than the normal human being" "Whatever"...
I could hear it in the background but I kept my eyes shut. Then the door opened and closed. I think someone came in. Rather than came out. "Sup Merc, hello there Professor Omen!". "Well, hello there to you too Nmagain!" "Eww, why is there a flesh bag on the table". "He's awake..." The voice was definately feminine. But, displacent, as if it was unusual to her mouth...
"Well that was really unusual for you Rabid, not usually the sharpest light in the Chandileer." "What was that?" said Nmagain. "One of his new retarded sayings..." said Merc.. "I opened my eyes, and got up. But, then a heard a crack, and went back down. "Damnit this hurts..." "Yes you won't be moving for some time buddy, you've done a lot to get hurt. Taking a explosion that large at pointblank nearly..." "I am pumping him with some drugs now" said Omen. I noticed he was the one I saw in the picture. I passed out.
A few days Later
"Damnit she's dead..." "What are you doing professor?" "Checking to see how long shes been dead...", after a few seconds I heard him again. "She's been dead for over 2 weeks..." "But, we saw her just 4 days ago with the fleshbag..." said Nmagain. "Exactly, theres only one explanation. It wasn't her. And I know of only one person that knows our weaknesses and is smart enough to pull off a stunt like this..." "Clockwork?"... "Or his twin brother I presume... but, XXX isn't smart enough and wouldn't of been able to kill us..." "Wait, I saw Rabid just yesterday when she was taking a hike outside..." said Merc... "What did she have with her" "Nothing of too much importance... Just a flashlight and some food..." Why would you need to take a flashlight out in this area..." And going hiking in a desert area such as this... Damnit your an idiot, that flashlight might have something inside of great important to me. We must not lose it"
"Your a little too late for that Son!" The voice was velvet smooth but it was still strained. Similar to what you hear from someone whose smoked for a few months after taking 10 years off. They lose their mind don't they? "Of course she's been dead for longer than that. You were careless. Haven't learned a thing" I got up not knowing where I was. I was about 120 yards off. Amazing that I heard it all. I ran to the area they were in and noticed I was running with so much ease it felt like I was simply standing still. I could run so much faster. I was stronger too. I also noticed that I had my laser panels back in my arms and eyes. Good, he knows what he does for a living I guess. But, to be able to fix so much damage takes more than medical treatment. He's made me stronger!
Clockwork raised his hand. "I should've done this years ago" He flattened his finger in the air. I half expected him to control an element. Similar to a PG player. But, instead all I heard was a mind numbing crack. And a very high pitch noise. Then nothing. Nmagain fell to the floor. He has blood swarming out his ears and a burn on his back. His shirt was torn off completely.
"Consider it a warning" Clockwork was about to go off until another man caught his arm. Then I noticed it was a female. She had a very smooth voice. And a face similar to clockworks. But, it fit. And she was very pretty. Though her eyes were steely and she'd be bad company every time you hung out with her. I slowed my pace of running down because I was 10 yards off. I was jogging now. But, as I thought back I had been before. Maybe shes making me feel worse than I should. "Alpha, what do you want" "I want to kill them all. What's the point of sitting here and doing nothing." "Because the PG Empire had a Probe in Orbit searching this area. They are unique to the empire and will have us being chased if we do kill them" "Do it fast then" "You underestimate the professor. For your skill level you would take near 15 minutes. More than enough time for them to bombard us with a plasma shell. We should get out of here. Your way of dealing with things in inefficant and wasteful." "Hmph, my name is not Alpha! It's triple X as I have told you before" "Whatever..."
He disappeared. Not instantly but it was so close that it was scary. He stuttered in mid air and flickered as if teleporting a 100yards each. After the second time he disappeared. We all ran to Nmagain. Who was slowly healing. "He's still alive I guess" I said... "When did you get here?" , it was Merc. "Just a few seconds ago", "Nmagain is alive and kicking. I cannot heal him. He'll heal himself. It's his power after all" "To heal himself?" I said. Merc was the one to answer "He can slowly mutate and move flesh. Microtelekinesis. He can do it on metal too. But the process strains him. And if you are more powerful you can sometimes resist the damage he attempts to inflict.
