The Fight
-This was originally a story I just wrote when I was bored, but when I got a short story project in school last year, I just revised it and ended it. The climax comes pretty quickly, and the flow could be better, but I still got 98% on this by a tough teacher, so I'm happy. When I finish the longer version, I'll definitely post it. Parts of this story are based off of the extremely underrated video game called Paraworld. Enjoy-
The fire alarm was rapidly and violently beeping as the torched house started burning. It was around midnight when a very angry employee of SEAS inc. torched the house on 1234 s. Newport lane. The bottom of the house was on fire and burning down slowly when Sally, Thorton, Leona, and Jeff jumped out of a window, into the pool, and over the fence to get to the beach. The Seas family watched the last of their house burn down. “Our beautiful house is gone. Who would do such a thing to us?” Leona cried.
“Leo,” said Jeff.
“What? Why would he do this?”
“I fired him the other day, and he said I would rue the day.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means I would regret it. Now, I do.”
“Oh, Honey.”
“No. No, I won’t accept this without a fight. First thing’s first though. We need to make another house out of seashells, one that won’t burn down.”
“I can’t believe it,” said Sally. “I can’t believe that our house is really gone.”
“Don’t worry Sally. We can build another one,” said Thorton.
“Okay then. Since you think it’s that simple… How are we possibly going to build another house lined with seashells?!”
“It’s not going to be lined with seashells. It’s going to be made of seashells.” The whole family stared at him. “Well, it has to be. That’s the only way it won’t burn down.”
“I guess it will work, other than the fact it’s going to take millions of shells!”
“Quit arguing with me! I know it will work. It’ll just take time.”
The seas family went to the nearest hotel and checked in. They went into the presidential suite and made themselves at home.
The reason that the Seas family could afford this suite is because Jeff is the founder and owner of the SEAS foundation. There, they make dimensional travel possible. They made an interdimensional travel machine. The machine was a success. Recently, they discovered a dimension in time where all time periods combine. They encountered three clans. The Norsemen, who owns and uses for combat, Tertiary animals.
When you look through the window of the suite, you can see all of San Diego. “What a beautiful view,” said Sally.
“It is, isn’t it?” said Leona. The two looked around until they spotted the rubble that used to be their house
“We should have dinner now,” said Jeff.
“You’re right. We didn’t have dinner yet did we?”
“Let’s get room service.” Thorton and Jeff dug through the drawers, looking for the phone book. Jeff then remembered the slip of paper with phone numbers on it.
“This paper has every business in the hotel and the SEAS adventure park across the street with phone numbers and everything,” said Lisa, the lobby attendant.
“Of course!” said Jeff. He reached into his wallet and pulled out the slip of paper. “Hello. We would like four random orders with two random desserts.”
“That will be fifty-eight, ninety-nine,” said someone with a familiar Chinese-accented voice.
“Thank you.” He hung up. “That was Leo! That no good, rotten, piece of crap.”
Jeff and his family got into ambush position to attack Leo, but once Jeff opened the door and was ready to give out his surprise attack, they witnessed the exact opposite. He had been trampled all over. Leo as his men came into the suite and cuffed the Seas family. “You always were one step behind me Jeffrey. You know why?” Leo said as he increased the pressure on Jeff’s chest with his knee. “I’m Chinese, and the Chinese are born to be one step ahead of Americans.”
“Right, and you were also born to create the passageway to an alternate dimension, but it was me that created it.”
“It was my idea in the first place! You stole the idea!”
“No, it was my idea before you came to work at SEAS. When you saw the blueprints to the machine, you stole them. I then picked up my other copy of the blueprints and built the machine. The reason I fired you is because I found out that you tried to steal my invention and take home the grand prize.”
“How did you find out?”
“I came to your office to talk to you about being my assistant in building the machine. But instead of you in your office, I found the blueprints and the parts to build the machine.” He kicked him off and knocked Leo and all of his boys off their feet. “Instead of fighting, we’ll “ask” the Norsemen if we can use their things for a war. Better yet, we’ll start from scratch, 50 food, 100 wood, 100 stone, and three workers. We’ll have a death match. The first one to have five hours with no town center is the loser. Do you understand?”
“Yes, I do. But, one more thing; we get to stay in a separate tavern than the one in the camp.” he nodded yes.
Once they got to the SEAS alternate dimension machine, they all got in and made it go to the main Norsemen camp. They went to Anthony Cole to ask him if they could borrow some of his resources and six workers.
“Of all my years being trapped in this dimension with two of my best friends, I’ve never heard a more stupid question than that. Do you really think I’m going to just give you those things after all I’ve been through? I’ve had hundreds of fierce battles with other Norsemen, Dustriders, and the Dragon Clan. Do you have any idea how many times I’ve been imprisoned? I was almost killed 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-96 times. Do you really think I’ll just give you the stuff? Okay, here’s the bottom line. The answer is no.”
“We didn’t ask if you would give us the stuff. We asked if we could trade something for them.”
“It’s gonna have to be a good one.”
“What if I said you could travel home and back here?”
“Impossible. Even Nikolou Taslow couldn’t build the machine for that type of travel.”
“Come outside with us. We’ll show you what we mean.”
The men walked outside to the mountains where the machine of Cole’s dreams waited.
“So this is it?”
“Yup.”
“Well, if you got here with it, then I guess you can travel back with it.”
As Cole, Leo, and Jeff were stepping into the machine, a log that came out of nowhere pierced the doors of the machine and blocked the entrance.
“Barbarians!” said Cole. “All men man your stations and attack!”
“What’s going on?” asked Leo.
“We’re under attack! What do you think is happening?” They all ran back to the Tavern and took cover.
Once the three took cover, they all compromised and made a plan to return fire. “Do any of you have any cameras on you?” asked Cole.
“I have one, but I dropped it when we were retreating,” said Jeff. They all slowly peeked their heads through the window. There didn’t seem to be anyone there. Cole spotted the camera and started walking outside when suddenly, a barbarian grabbed Cole and gave a signal of some sort with his fingers that looked like this.
(}{)
An archer that popped out of nowhere started aiming his arrow at Cole when Jeff and Leo came running out of the tavern after the man with Cole. Without trying, the man grabbed the two and said, “Fgaredk Thaw fonuc reot guanaik shuwat. Translation, Hey, Thaw, get these guys too.” The archer pulled out a tri-arrow and started to aim once more. Just as the archer was about to let go, a worker snuck up from behind and hit him with his war club at the same time that another worker hit the other man. They both fell down unconscious.
“Does anyone want to help us carry these barbarians to the torcher chamber? You know, where we make them into our warriors. There are about 50 more at the gate.”
“Good lord,” said Cole. “It looks like I’m going to work a muscle or two. What about you two? Do you want to help?”
“Sure,” said Jeff.
They all walked to the gate of the camp and saw a beautiful, prehistoric wonderland. “Wow,” said Leo. “This place is amazing.”
“Well, you get used to it after five years,” said Cole. “To get to the torcher chamber, you go about seven buildings down, make a right. The chamber is the creepy building with chains and bars on it. You can’t miss it.”
As they walked closer to the torcher chamber, a creepy feeling that went into the air made Leo shrug. “Be a man, dude,” said Cole.
“Well, you’re used to it. You’ve been here for five years,” said Leo in a rood tone.
Cole ignored him, and they all threw their knocked out corpses in the chamber. “That’s the last of them,” said Cole.
“What do you mean?” said Jeff.
“I just got a call from Dshow saying that a chariot will get the rest of them.”
“Great. Now, we can spend more time thinking about how we will counter. “Come in Cole,” said Dshow over the walkie-talkie. “We destroyed the enemy camp, and we’re bringing their soldiers to the torcher chamber and the recourses to the lumber-mill, the stone quarry, and food storage.”
“Nikolou? Are you in here?” asked Cole
“Yes, over here,” said Nikolou in his German accent. “Who are they?”
“This is Jeff and Leo. They traveled to our time with a time machine, the one you tried to build.”
“Well, where is it?”
“That is why we came to you. The Barbarians pierced the entrance with a log from their log cannon. We were hoping that you could fix it, and you could go back to our era with us. We could go back and forth any time we want.”
“Well, I suppose.”
“Great follow us.”
They rode a chariot back to the camp where the machine was. “Alright, this saw should do the trick,” said Nikolou.
He started cutting the log so the thing that destroyed the door would be the door. In about fifteen minutes, it was repaired and ready for use. Cole started to step in, but out of nowhere, a log pierced the door, again.
“Are you kidding me?!” screamed Cole. “It happened again! Those barbarians are dead!”
Everyone except Nikolou charged like wild savages at the barbarians with guns and swords. A bloody massacre took place. Cole was panting when he saw his best friend, Dshow laying on the ground, unconscious, with multiple arrows in him.
“It’s all your fault!” screamed Cole. “I’m gonna kill you!” He started to chase after Jeff and Leo with his swords in both hands ready to slice. “If it wasn’t for you, none of this would have ever happened! A few days before you two came, my wife was killed, and now my best friend is dead! You promised that I could go home, and I’m still trapped in this place! I knew I made a mistake trusting you two, and now you’re gonna die!”
“Run faster!” said Leo. “If you were Asian, I wouldn’t have to tell you this!”
Jeff ignored the racist comment and ran faster. Soon they reached the machine which Nikolou had fixed again, and they bolted in, slammed the door, punched in the time and coordinates, and took off back to their era.
“So, Jeff,” said Leo,” about your house.”
“I won’t press charges as long as you help me build a new one,” said Jeff.
They drove to the hotel and met Jeff’s family.
“So who’s ready to build a house?” said Jeff
“It’s done,” said Leona.
“Really?”
“Yep.”
“Is it like the old one except for the seashell part?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay then. This is awkward. I guess I’ll call the cops then.”
“No, wait,” said Leo. “There has to be another way.”
“You can be our maid and butler for five years,” said Leona.
“Fine.”
“Wait,” said Jeff. “How are we going to end the story?”
“Happily ever after?”
“No. Too cheesy.”
“Oh, I know. How about… Uerm… I forget.”
