...but it still makes sense for others to express their approval, since they will ultimately be the ones earning and wearing the badges.

It's fine to say they want it or don't want it, but I just wouldn't call it a vote.

So GV, which badges do you think should be official and which not?

How about the Filthy Rich Badge? Qwerty thought of something like it in the DBS. Anyway, here it is: Filthy Rich Badge: To get it you have to buy it for a gross amount of DBs.

Heh, that's awesome. We'll need someone else to approve it.
Oh, and now that you have the power, whenever you make a new badge feel free to stick it in "Undecided" without permission, if you want.

Purchase the badge for 50% of your Dan-Balls when you have 500 or more Dan-Balls? Sure.
I will agree to a percentage-based amount, not an "absolute" amount...

|
|
Post by ~Memzak~ on Oct 8, 2010 5:04:06 GMT
Which means for me to get it I'll have to pay 15K of my Dan-Balls... >:C
|
|
|
Post by Rock on Oct 8, 2010 10:35:31 GMT
Maybe not 50%, something smaller like 20%, because some people would have to pay up to 25000 DBs. And Qwerty, I'll start doing that also, but this is the quickest way to let everybody know.
|
|
|
Post by ~Memzak~ on Oct 8, 2010 13:11:57 GMT
So is it 20% or 50%?
Either way I'm going to buy it... Even though I liek having money... :C

Fine, how about 25%, with the minimum requirement raised to 1000 Dan-Balls? Unlike 20%, which is 5-1, this percentage will be friendlier with even numbers, which is what a majority of users will have, since 25% is a binary fraction.

|
Post by Qwerty on Oct 8, 2010 13:23:06 GMT
I think more 1000 dan-balls, and why percentage? It should be purchased when someone feels comfortable with buying it. If we go by percentage, people would never feel comfortable, as waiting to buy it would mean it would just cost them more in the long-run. We shouldn't punish people that already have dan-balls, but make it easy for those that have few. The percentage should at least decrease somehow as the total increases.

Post by ~Memzak~ on Oct 8, 2010 13:37:50 GMT
Heh yea... If I were to buy it now I'd loose a hefty percentage of my Dan-Balls... But when you have as many as I do it doesn't really matter to me... Although an upper limit Max Dan-Balls amount would be nice too... Lets say... 10K DBs?
|
|
|
Post by Qwerty on Oct 8, 2010 14:22:35 GMT
Hmm, so that it's 20% of your dan-balls if you have 1K dan-balls, but it can't go any higher than, say, 5K dan-balls? I still don't like that it makes it more expensive if you wait to buy it.

Post by Fringe Pioneer on Oct 8, 2010 14:47:33 GMT
Alright, shall we compromise on an "absolute" value of 2000 Dan-Balls?

I approve the nom badge, but not the filthy rich badge. We already have enough badges that relate to having a high amount Danballs. The shopper badge should be based on number of purchases, not the amount of Danballs spent.

Wait, I'm confused. What's the Nom Badge?

5 virtual cookie badge. Don't ask me what NOM stands for.

Please tell me...I'm the one who's designing it, I deserve to know what it means.

It's not an acronym, but part of a meme or something. I don't know why people "nom" on good food, but some describe it as such. So here, a user who manages to win five virtual cookies is supposedly "nomming" all the cookies.
Maybe QwertyuiopThePie could better explain why NOM, which is his favorite of the three names (Baker's Dozen, Cookie Monster, and NOM) that I proposed for higher numbers of Virtual Cookies.

Post by Rock on Oct 8, 2010 22:23:33 GMT
How about this: For participating in 1-4 contests, you get a Virtual Cookie for each contest. Then once you hit five, you get the Nom Badge, which is the same thing only it says "NOM". 13 and you get the Baker's Dozen, 20 and and you get the Cookie Monster Badge. And just to clear things up, they all have the same background, just different words.
Actually....I'll try some different backgrounds for each one.

I prefer just the NOM badge...
oh and nom stands for...
NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOMNOM NOM NOM NOM! (eating stuff) As for teh shopper and filthy rich badge.
I'm going to suggest that the shopper is for spending on all profile upgrades. (custom name, custom title and custom stars)
While that the Filthy Rich Badge is earned by spending 2K on JUST the badge.
Which makes for two different badges. (basically like Veers has been suggesting this whole time)
I agree with Veers.

Here are the Virtual Cookie, Nom, Baker's Dozen, and Cookie Monster Badges: Virtual Cookie: [Participate in 1 contest] Nom: [Participate in 5 Contests] Baker's Dozen: [Participate in 13 contests] Cookie Monster: [Participate in 20 contests] They're each a different type of cookie, including chocolate chip, Oreo, frosted sugar, and rainbow chip. I think the Cookie Monster Badge should count towards your total because even if all your uploads took only 20 minutes, there are only one or two contests per month, so It'll take a while to win the badge.

Point of Inquiry: Is the 10k Danball badge for having 10k danballs at anytime?
|
|
|
Post by Fringe Pioneer on Oct 9, 2010 16:12:33 GMT
To the extent of my knowledge, yes. If you ever had 10,000 Dan-Balls at one point in time, you can get the badge.
Concerning the badges, I'm not too particular about the Oreo Nom Badge, but I think the Sugar Baker's Dozen and Rainbow Cookie Monster Badges are excellently designed. I'm not sure how far to go with the cookies, i.e. to stay with only a Virtual Cookie and a Nom Badge, or have the different badges for different cookie amounts. I'll let QwertyuiopThePie and TheShadowLord, as well as everyone else, have their input.

So since I have a board, doe that mean I get the 10,000 Dbs badge?

Post by Rock on Oct 9, 2010 17:14:54 GMT
Yup
As for the Nom Badge, Do you not like the design or the requirements?
|
|
|
Post by Fringe Pioneer on Oct 9, 2010 17:17:25 GMT
The design - I think the requirements are good, and encouraging for newer members, too.
Maybe a chocolate chunk cookie, a Macademia Nut cookie, or a snickerdoodle would work? Of course, I'm also quite happy with simply a chocolate chip cookie, just like the virtual cookie...

Hmm, I like the look of those. How do we keep track? Have a "Virtual Cookie" count in their member notes?
As to the shopper badge, that sounds like a good compromise.
|
|
|
Post by Fringe Pioneer on Oct 9, 2010 20:25:32 GMT
Yes, using the member/warning notes for keeping track of cookies will ensure that non-staff can't tamper with the amounts to falsify qualification for virtual cookie badges. As for staff, we would probably manually count the number of contests in which they participated but didn't place...
