I notice most of the time, the chat is empty, but even when it is filled, odds are there are no mods in it. This happens early in my morning and before that. I think we need more chat mods, Ones that are up during the hours which the majority of mods aren't. For instance, chat mods tend to be up around 5ish to 1ish EST. I think we need more mods to cover the other hours. Thank you for listening.

Easy fix: Recruit more Aussies and train them.

I don't really understand...
We wouldn't really need more chat mods if we didn't insult each other all the time and respected each other more. Kind of like the old days.

I feel like we've had a thread like this before. I believe the problem is that normally people who are chat moderators also must be in some sort of staff position on the forum. It lessens the confusion of the staff hierarchy. If this is the case, I don't think they are or will be accepting any more applications for staff at this time.
EDIT: the reason why it's like this is because only staff members are able to access the chat ban records where they can record their bans.

But they shouldn't have any responsibility of. say. forum activity, they would only be forum mods to perform their actual modding duties on chat.

Yes, I just performed a ban as per qwerty's orders, and I wasn't able to report it!

That's the problem with chat integrated into the forum. An ideal chat would normally have a section where the moderators can record their bans and the reasons for said bans. We can do the same on the forum, but it would require a board that all chat moderators can see and nobody else except forum staff. We can create a password-protected board, but the problem arises when the password gets out into the public.
Perhaps a chat moderator rank would be appropriate for the forum which only allows access to a separate forum board listing chat records?

I don't know the password. I was never told.

That's the problem though. Anyone can get through provided they know the password. A chat moderator rank allows only chat mods or higher staff to access. Anyone below that rank is restricted access regardless.

It does actually...
Just make a chat mod rank, give them permission to said board.

Fine, that'd be simpler. We'd have to make a new category, though, to allow only one non-staff rank in.

Tis not about who would do it, but who should, and their timezone. I guess since it is pretty popular I'll open up the hiring thread again.
