*After a few seconds of sliding and burning his hands, he reaches the sixth floor. Since he is toward the back of the shaft, and the elevator shaft entrance is toward the front, he wouldn't be able to reach the opening so easily. Even if he could, the elevator shaft doors of the sixth floor are closed.*
Dvorak, this is MO 22759. I'm at the sixth floor, but I'm toward the back of the shaft and the elevator doors are closed. Perhaps could your team open the doors and help me reach them so I'm not stuck hanging here? Especially since my hands are burning from going down the cable...

*At this point, one of the other officers comes to. Named John Portly, his reputation was for having a cunning edge but unfortunate, violent fits for seemingly small points. His colleagues disliked him greatly, but he was efficient in his work.*
*John sits up, grunting*
"Wha... What's going on here? Is the base still on lockdown?"
*Draws out a rifle, but notices he has no ammunition. With a look of distaste, he discards the rifle and readies a pistol instead. Walks over and begins questioning Dvorak about the situation.*
"So what can I do to help?"

Dvorak: "In short, we have no idea what's going on. We suspect some grey goo has eaten the upper floors and we know there's a cave-in in the second floor, sealing us off. Check the terminal (last page) for details on what is offline. Our auxiliary reactor is going funky so we have a mechanic from the second floor coming down the counterweight cable to meet us.

Dvorak: "Relax. We're not being invaded. I think... Well, in a manner of speaking we could be said to be under siege. Sort of. Just relax."

It seems that MO 22759 has made it down safely.
*Vertigo speaks into his walkie talkie*
I'll be there shortly.
*Vertigo exits out of the room and makes his way to the elevator shaft. Upon reaching the door, he digs his fingers into the crevices and wrenches half of the door slowly open*

General Spark: [Over walkie talkie]: My bad. The bot should clear off the goo in about 3 years.
I then walk over to my computer and see the following dialog boxes on my laptop:
Emergency Defense: Base Attack: Lockdown
NOTICE OF EMERGENCY LOCKDOWN
Alert: Auxilliary Generator 4 in IS online and throttled
Life Support Possible Overload
After I see the last one, I log in as the LS account, and kick the life support into overdrive, bringing it fully back online.

Godmod much? Comeon.
Alan joined them. "I hear a Nonja who's trapped. One sec." Alan dashed off to the elevator with thunder sword in hand, ready to cut open the door.

Spark, I have already explained this to you. There is no goo in the base. You are not in a ship. If you were, you wouldn't have any connection to our base at all, what with our communication system being destroyed. Even if you were in the base, you couldn't restore our entire generator and life support system in one turn.

*Vertigo wrenches the elevator doors open all the way, and then sees the dangling officer*
Er...hi? Okay, let's see now...
*Verigo finds a rusty pipe on the ground, and walks back to the elevator, sticking it out*
Think you can jump from the cable and grab onto this pipe?
*Vertigo places both of his feet on the walls on both sides of the elevator door, bracing himself*

Post by Fringe Pioneer on Apr 26, 2011 5:07:46 GMT
*MO 22759 jumps from the cable to the pipe. The pipe bends under the stress, but it holds him. Vertigo then pulls the pipe in enough for MO 22759 to reach the floor's floor, upon which the officer hoists himself up.*
Thank you, I was afraid I was going to fall. I guess I should go to the commanding admiral for further instructions...

Dvorak: "About that, we're getting no response from him. He was in the damaged region of the second floor, so by now he's almost certainly either crushed, vaporized, or, worse, killed by grey goo. That leaves me acting admiral for this little outpost (why they assigned an admiral here is beyond me). Now, do you know where the fusion core is and how we can fix it? We need more power if we're gonna get the AI fully back online."

*Vertigo heads towards the HQ, and finds a cozy little cot*
I'm going to sleep, feel free to wake me if anything serious happens.
*Vertigo snuggles into the cot, and falls into a deep and relaxing sleep*
OOC: I'm so freakin' tired right now, the least I can do is give my character sleep. Yes, that makes me feel better.

I was referring to you, since you already told me that the Admiral himself was killed.
I do believe the fusion core is at the bottom-most floor, so that in the event of an accident involving the core the top half of the base and the surrounding environment and nonja barracks wouldn't be massively affected.

My laptop reads:
BEEP! Auxillary Generator Will Be Up Fully in 3 Days from this Post Date
I then walk over to the Inner Sanctum, open the door, and find a note. It reads:
Spark, you are the only person with the technology to destroy the goo. Please stop them!
The Old Admiral, Admiral Pellet.
Dvorak, Admiral Pellet wants me to battle the goo. Permission to attack?

Dangit Spark, have I not made it clear that nothing you are doing is actually happening? Are you reading my posts at all?
Dvorak: "Excellent. We're going to have quite some difficulty getting back up once we go down, so what should we bring?"

Well, do we have any hazmat suits? We may not need them if there isn't any damage to the core, but I don't know the extent of the damage done to the base. We'll also need flashlights or some other kind of steady illumination, a toolbox, and access to a computer terminal.
Are there any stairs intact leading from here to the bottom floor, unlike at the upper floors where practically everything was crushed? If there are any, we should use those rather than the elevator shaft. If not, we need to get some durable rope or chain or something else really long that we can use to climb up and down.
As a matter of fact, is there a supply closet on this level? We'll likely need to get everything from it...

Spark, I repeat, you have to establish your character before you can play. I don't know what that thing you have up there is but it has nothing to do with this game.
*Dvorak heads to a terminal*
Dvorak (typing): Login. USER: Dvorak. PASS: *******. Auxiliary Generator Status.
"We've got terminals down there and up here, but we dunno if the ones down there are working. Hazmat suits are in the training area, way up at level 3, but I think we have some stored at level 4 for torture purposes. Just two floors up. The personal torture chamber in the Inner Sanctum, on this floor, should have some chains if we can somehow get them hooked on something up there. We'll have to adapt some kind of grappling hook. The flashlights and toolbox are no big issue, we were just finishing up some Inner Sanctum maintenance when it hit, whatever 'it' is."

He basically just said he'd leave the game there. It's not that I want him to leave, per se, just learn what's going on in the game.
Dvorak: "Oh, hi. We're all screwed and this place could go nuclear any minute. Even if it doesn't, the surface was devoured by nanobots, the second floor has collapsed, the Admiral is missing (presumed dead), and the counterweight in the elevator is completely destroyed."

Alright, I'm going to go to the supply closet and look for some long chains. I might be able to find some hooks or something on Floor 4 with the torture supplies, but I'll have to find a way to get up to that floor. Of course, if anyone finds anything in the personal torture chamber that could be used as a good makeshift grapple hook, or even an actual grapple hook, then let me know.
*MO 22759 heads off to the supply closet. With one right outside the Inner Sanctum, he's within earshot of the others and vice versa. Amongst standard janitor supplies, he does find several heavy-duty chains of various lengths. The longest one would only be able to reach upwards one floor. There aren't any hazmat suits down here, so he would still have to go up two floors. He does find a pair of gloves, which he immediately puts on. He hopes he won't be the one to go up the floors, but if so, he now has gloves to prevent his hands from burning again.
He speaks to the group a few feet away.*
Hey, could anyone else look through this closet to make sure I didn't miss anything? I found some janitor supplies, some chains, and some nice gloves. Also, could someone get together the toolkit and find some electrical analysis tools, like multimeters and crimpers and strippers and what not while you're in the Inner Sanctum?
