Deleting a post does not decrease the reported number of posts in the user's profile. I have seen this several times in the past while deleting my own accident posts.

XD, when I saw that I started laughing. Too bad I was in the office with many stressed adults working, doing their jobs....
But if I am correct wasn't the person who came back elton? Or am I wrong?

Clockwork = Elton.
Anyway, we never delete threads. Never. That is permanent. Instead we archive them if the public can see them, or trash them otherwise. Exception is, of course, spambots, but we haven't had any of those since we put the code in.

what about a forum rule: Don't change your damn name? I wonder why that is even possible...
|
|
|
Post by ~Memzak~ on Jun 17, 2010 14:56:16 GMT
That rule was back when we had a code to disable changing display names.
ArchZero/NightShade/Zodaki/TOOMANYNAMES was the main reason. He changed his name twice a week. That's why the rule was there.
But the code has since been removed. Thus rendering the rule obsolete. Someone should change it. [/sir point out the obvious]

If thats what it takes to stop people from renaming, I'll happily change my name every day. On the other hand, it was a 5 minute job to write the JS for my greasemonkey script to change every name into its username...So thats what I'm gonna call everyone from now on.

Eh, maybe I should put in my signature, "I am Eltoneyes, xxxnikexxx, whiteyes, constantine, beyond possible, Elton, OMEN, Tiger, and V."
I like changing my name. But, I like to be known.
@qwert: "I was banned for a year. But, I was absent for about 6 months before I came back on chat".

Considering that gender, post count, signature, and avatar generally don't change when someone decides to change their name, it shouldn't be hard to recognize someone in spite of a name change. People have a right to change their name, and maybe even be recognized by that new name, so long as people do not change their names frequently.
If I cycled through every Star Wars Imperial officer once a week, that would be ridiculous, much less if I chose new names that didn't relate to Imperial officers.
If I changed my name to "Natasha Bedingfield" on April Fool's Day and one other day for a total of twice a year, then that would not be ridiculous (except maybe for the implied behavioral differences between a fictional officer and an existing singer).
At what frequency and newness of name (i.e. how little it relates to the previous name) will a name change become ridiculous, I don't know. Name changers, exercise courtesy and common sense. Others, exercise some respect for the need to change a name, although go ahead with putting in private codes that revert names to the permanent usernames if need be...

In other words:
What Arch did was too much. Elmach was getting there. We can just warn on an individual basis.
Heh, remember when I changed my name to nothing? Just emptiness?

Can my sister join the forum? If she is over 13, and won't be a jerk, yes.

Sure, will you be using the same computer?
We just have to know if it is two people with the same IP, otherwise we'll assume multiple accounts which isn't allowed...
Oh and welcome the forums!

If not, you can't differentiate multiple computers by their IP, because every computer behind a router has the same public IP address.

She has a different computer but the same IP address.
I just don't want confusion going around.
She is 13 and is not a jerk.

Even if it was the same computer, if she is a different person then you, she can join. I'm not sure what you mean with confusion, IMO its more confusing, if two different people post from the same account.

I joined when I was 11 or 10. So I don't think it matters about the proboards age limit. I have Character and my own Morals. But, I completely ignore all Internet Age limits unless they are absolutely needed. (Most common with things like Money or Politics, I sometimes just prefer to stay out of personal topics)

It's the US laws, which say that you must a): be over 13 to give away your personal infos, or b): Have parental approval. Also, can't resist overusing smilies... ;D
