I've been gone for awhile and I am confused by the new class and need to know what to pick for my four units and what to upgrade.

It shouldn't matter what classes you choose: any answers you get, unless they are similar in nature to this cautionary one, will be based solely on personal preference. Some people have success with quadruple priests, some people have success with one melee and three rangers, and yet others have success with all melee. The same goes for SP investments and compo item choices: there is no best organization. Just take a look at each of the classes in the wiki and see what you think would be suitable for you. Take a look here for some explanations and suggestions.

Quad priests is really not a good idea till you are once again used to it. It all depends on strategy: Letting it run, or moving all the characters? Massive damage, or massive spread?
This is for sure: Go for at least one or two ranged classes.

I usually use one priest, one melee and two ranged. In the beginning its easier to exchange the priest for a third ranged class.
IMO the easiest team to play is a quad sniper all with shot weapons. They are easy to play but don't do a lot of damage, so they are slow. Still the sheer range of them kill most enemies from out of their reach. You have to change strategies for levels like ?!? though.
And I never waste any SP into health. I usually have a boxer as a tank, but I keep him alive with the vampires card and not with high amounts of lp.

Yup, you're all right. For me, a glad, sniper, priest and a gunner was nice. On the other hand, gunners aren't exactly newbe-friendly, so you might wanna replace him with a magican or another sniper. (for pr0s, 3 priests + gunner is a PULVERISER )

Four boxers is a brilliant combination, but only for people experienced with fighting flying enemies. They can quickly turn any opposition inside-out. For newbs, I would advise 1 Sniper, 2 Magicians and a Boxer. Give the sniper 20 MAG and then put points into DEX. Give one Magician full STR. Give one Magician full DEX. Give the Boxer full STR and only use 5-10 AGI weapons. Get him a vampire's card as soon as possible. With a sonic knuckle this can achieve massive LP recovery in crowded stages.

My favorites are Priest, Sniper, Gunner, Boxer and Priest, Sniper, Magician, Gladiator.
Weapons Finding out weapons is pretty much difficult, but I prefer:
Priest: Long Wood Staff (Red Stone 4, Black Stone 4) Sniper: Triple Poison 4 (Emerald 3, Peridot 3) Gunner: Remington 3 (Crit's Card 3, Green Stone 4) Boxer: Fire Knuckle 3 (Ruby 3, Blue Stone 4) Magician: Ice Meteor 4 (Sapphire 3, Green Stone 4) Gladiator: Lightsaber 4 (Topaz 3, Blue Stone 4) Whipper: Explosion Whip 2 (Green Stone 4, Bullet's Card 3)
Stats Priest: full STR Sniper: 25 MAG, rest STR Gunner: 40 DEX, rest STR (or full STR if 3 Priest 1 Gunner build) Boxer: 10 MAG, 16 DEX, rest STR (with Blue Stone 4 attached to weapon) Magician: 50 DEX, rest MAG Gladiator: 5 MAG, rest STR (with Blue Stone 4 attached to weapon) Whipper: 50 MAG, rest DEX
A fun team I've made was a Priest, Gunner, Whipper, Boxer team. The Priest had its usual build/weapon. The Gunner had a Laser Beam Gun 4 with a Ruby 3 and a Guide's Card 3. The Whipper had a Thorn Chain 4 with a Bullet's Card 3 and a Blue Stone 4(initial build: 40 MAG, rest DEX). Finally, the Boxer had a Needle Knuckle with a Crit's Card 3 and a Red Stone 4. It's a weird build, but it has proven itself as unique and fun. Try it out!

I use 4 mages but to set off save your games when you chose a team with get set so you can go back and change or if you don't like that team change but I say follow your heart. I can easilly use 4 mages but no other teams.
