It seems inactive, i agree, but according to the stats, we're quite alive.

Aside from discussing various Dan-Ball updates on a weekly manner, we are going through a queue of contests, participating in chat, and playing some forum games. Admittedly, most of the time is spent in chat.
As Vaconcovat pointed out, we have a decent number of unique members, so we just need some common topic of interest, especially some kind of activity or competition.

The thing is, removing chat from the front page would revitalize the forum...

Removal of the Chat would result in much more posts. Or Java Chat would allow a medium between the two options. Either way, if we keep Chatango there will be less posts than if we didn't have it. It is... quite addicting.

The forums looks dead, but every now and then I go and post on every topic I possibly can on this forums. I then check how long it takes for other people to post on it. Thus seeing how active it is.
It surprisingly is quite active.
Oh, and you must remember me? (but I can't go on chat during the week)

Both of these statements are assumptions with no viable proof to support their cause. The chat is in place so that users can speak freely amongst one another in real time. Activity is not only relevant to the forum, but the chat as well. Furthermore, if you were to remove the chat, it would only lower activity even more.

The forum is not dead. This is most obvious in that there are posts being made in this thread.
We recieve near a hundred posts a day, nearly a hundred unique visitors daily, and our activity has been slowly increasing since the move. Hell, I don't even know who zaixonito is. He's a monument to our success.
I will agree. Activity seems very low alot of the time, and we need to acquire more activity. I suggest we work on some sort of incentive program for being more active on the forum.
However, this recent spur against the chat will not help. People have suggested removing the chat many times, and indeed, it has never happened. Furthermore, this forum is an oligarchy, not a democracy, and I firmly believe that the forum staff cannot be swayed into this pattern of thought: I am yet to see any staff member mention chat removal as a good idea.

...However, this recent spur against the chat will not help. People have suggested removing the chat many times, and indeed, it has never happened... [Something about gas] Err, yes. I was just saying that most people prefer to post in the chat, instead of in the forum... Aaand, that is the reason why we have so high a member-to-post count. I was in no way suggesting that the *Gasp* chat should be removed.

The chat is pretty active, not the posts. So the forum in general is active.

Chat removal WOULD help make the forum more active. The percentage that all of the new activity would be about the removal of Chatango Chat is still yet to be decided...

I have a quite obvious solution other than chat removal.
Why don't we just post more...
Like 3 times more. Fill every board you can etc. I did it last night. Took 10 minutes and felt great!

I don't know if this is the same reason for anyone else's activity (or lack thereof) on the forum, but after the original got deleted (all the members, posts, and hard work) I just don't feel like doing it all again. It took me a few weeks to get any info before I could find the new forum. Plus this forum used to be like a bad soap opera- someone always getting banned for no reason or for a reason that they will deny forever, two members holding eternal grudges, at least one person always screaming about staff "dictators", some members abusing their power, people arguing and flaming constantly, the list goes on and on. Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way and I'm not taking this forum's past the way I should, but basically what I'm getting at here is that it's just gotten old, and I'm pretty much done with it, so that's why I'm not here much anymore.

Post it on artfrost, but don't move it there.
No, the forums are not dead. I'm looking at the stats. They are at the same level as they were back when we moved here, or greater. However, since people always focus on the negative, they ignore all the new members we have gained and look instead at all the old members we have lost. It cancels itself out.
Plus, summer hibernation...

Sparkpowder, just spam around. Doesn't do anything meaningful, although I didn't do too much also.

GE is considered somewhat-new-member, but not really a NEW member. He's pretty well-established.
