Some of you may recall the Faridians from Planetary Wars. The Faridians are my fictional race. It must be noted that the Faridians were an idea of mine before I came here. The Planetary Wars Faridians deviated significantly from the official Faridian canon which I will begin to detail here. Some of this was thought of long ago, some of it is recent.
The Faridians originally came from a relatively near by solar system called Locke. Their home planet was named Skie. The striking similarity between Skie's environment and Earth's can be explained by their extraordinarily similar origins. The also striking similarity between the Faridians and humans, however, is unexplainable. Faridians Are actually quite human looking. They do, however, have some significant differences. They are, for one, all pale blue. Their hands have only four fingers, two of which are similar to thumbs, and lie on opposite sides of the hand. Similarly, their feet have four digits as well. Faridians tend to be slightly taller and thinner than the average human. Their features are generally more angular and they have no hair. Faridians do often wear hats, in fact, they almost never take off their hats.
The Faridians made an incredible discovery during their tenure on Skie. Some human scientists have predicted an island of stability in elements with high atomic numbers. Some of these elements will not decay within milliseconds, but rather in a relatively long period of time. Human scientists, however, have never predicted an island of stability which exists for much larger elements. In the middle of this island is a perfectly stable element with remarkable properties. Faridians have named this element Ignosum. Ignosum can be used to bend energy. With this extraordinary element, the Faridians were able to create an incredible number of useful devices.
One of the first applicatons of Ignosum was PMT (plasma manipulation technology). With PMT the Faridians were able to make the PAG (plasma arc guide) weapons. PAG guns basically have a very high voltage anode (positively charged electrical terminal) and cathode (negatively charged). As electricity arcs between the anode and cathode it creates a band of plasma. The Ignosum is able to guide this plasma into an electrical arc of almost any shape.Typically however, it will be stretched in a straight line, since this is easiest to achieve and uses the least energy. Howver, PAG guns can also shoot around corners, if that is desired. Because of the nature of PAG guns, they only work for a (very) limited range.
PMT shields are also possible. PMT shields are basically spheres or hemispheres (formed by inverting the bottom half of a sphere) of plasma which conduct a charge that swirls around in a circle, all moving about an axis. Thus, at the top of the sphere, there is a point where there is little charge movement, and there is, in fact, a hole in the plasma shield. When a plasma/light (laser) weapon hits the shield it will be absorbed by the shield, yet a price. The charge flow in the shield is disrupted and no longer continues upon it's ideal path. More energy is required to reverse this damage. Thus, as a shield is hit repeatedly, it goes further into entropy, and becomes weaker. The shield is destroyed when the Ignosum can no longer guide the fields of energy, which are swirling about randomly. The shield can only be repaired slowly since it takes a huge amount of energy. Shields, however, typically last a very long time, even under heavy fire. This is because the flow of charge in the field has a property which can be best described through the analogy of momentum, though it is in fact due to magnetic fields and inductance. Physical projectiles are vaporized when they hit a PMT shield, and contribute little to entropy.
Large quantities of ignosum (and energy) can even bend electromagnetic radiation (X-rays, UV, infrared, radio waves, light, etc.). The resources required to do this are, however, extraordinary.
Skie was (more on the reason for a past tense verb later) the birthplace of the Faridian species. It has a predominantly desert-like environment. The sand, which rolled into dunes. Skie did not have anything very similar to plants. Instead of plants, Skie had fungus like growths, These were symbiotic relationships between various organisms. Some species would undergo a process similar to photosynthesis, which usually produced alcohols instead of sugar, which werre then synthesized by other species into more ueful compounds, such as sugars, starches, and proteins. Some organisms were inside these conglomerates to provide structure. Most of these odd velbs, as they were called, also had organisms which formed a thin, scabby, shell of metal for the velb. Velbs structures were loosely classified into drines (like tubers, underground blobs of velb), steans (vines), kints (like drines, except above ground), stoons (like leaves, though they were often very flexible, and suspended between multiple parts of a velb to form a large sheet), skoons (comparable to tree trunks), and freels (very much like roots). Faridians and any of Skies other animals, would eat mainly velbs for sustenance. Faridians also enjoyed a speedy industrialization, due to the easily accessed metal from the velbs. Later though, slagging sand and separating out the metals proved more suitable for large industries. The Faridians were not separated by bodies of water, since most water occured in several over-sized lakes around Skie. Since the Faridians were practically connected together, without separation, a global community was fast to form. Factions would spring up in opposition to the leading government, which would take different forms of dictatorship. Eventually, the millions of years of ongoing unrest and bloody conflict, which turned over government after government, came to a standstill with the Greenha Entrekald, or the Interfaction Treaty. It was ratified by a majority of factions, and called for each faction to send one senator per 500 people in a faction to an annual ( more accurately around 542 Earth days) convention, which would asses the current government and modify or replace it as necessary. The senate could decide on any form of government, and had the power to choose any leader.
After a billion years of flourishing however, the planet Skie was doomed to be destroyed by a planet sized object heading directly towards it. The various factions, and allied coalitions of factions, went their separate ways, each spearheading vast colonization missions. Faridians of a faction were generally lead on to thousands of ships, which were completely self sustainable to the end of time. The ships headed off at top speed, hoping to cover as much space as possible, in as little time as possible, in hopes of finding a new home sooner. SOme Faridians stuck it out to the bitter end, and were slagged along with the planet.
Don't worry, I'm still not done writing this 8D
