I've already tried to recruit a few people such as Lew102 and Cresthawk, but they say their parents don't want them to join. They really want to, but apperently, their parents simply won't let them make an account here and be an active member... Though they are allowed to go to xat chatrooms... Somehow, we need to start posting on the comment boards with a consistent, very convincing message to join the forums. I might see one advertisement every two weeks. We also need to somehow convince stubborn parents in the message. I joined at the beginning of April, and the forum was really active then. Now it's starting to slow down, and summer is getting closer. Those two facts seem to contradict each other. The shop economy has also went significantly down. The bottom line is, we need to recruit a lot more new members, and we need to come up with a very convincing message to post frequently (not spam) on all of the DanBall comment boards. Who's with me on this one?

Parents will be parents. They don't even want to bother to check on what is actually here. We need to advertise, yeah, but not to the parents.
Also, those don't contradict at all. Summer is usually a time of hibernation for the forums. Everyone is away on vacation.

I see what you mean there, but people usually have more free time as well.

Well, it's a time of free time once most schools have released their students. Have many of them had a chance to do that yet? For instance, the university I went to in particular released students just a few days ago. Others might release later. In my area, schools aren't set to release until midway through June...

What I mean is, the frequency of posts and number of people chatting should be rising to follow what the pattern should be. The numbers are falling instead.

Ah, but mdog, as we've observed over the years summer is hibernation. That is unlikely to change. Some have more free time, some have vacations. Most are too busy doing other things to go to the forum, hence hibernation. It makes complete sense that it is onsetting. Also, the actual numbers aren't falling at all: If anything we're more active than usual now. (For the record: Having fewer posts today than yesterday is not a drop in activity overall.)

Recruiting new members can be a difficult process, and requires strategic advertising, such as the userbars I have made on another thread.
Additionally, the fact that potential users need to ask their parents in the first place gives high chances that said users are not even of age to join the Dan-Ball forums, in which you must be thirteen.

Heh...Qwerty and his admin charts. Anyway, I'm definitely more active in the summer, seeing as there is no school. So don't worry, I'll make up for I'll the lost activity. Lol. Speaking of summer, I cannot believe it's almost been a year since I first joined.

I find it hard to believe you were given modship two months after you joined, but then again, Roncamp made me owner at his xat chat because I had good enough uploads, and I'm good friends with him

Well, it was meant to just be a temporary position, to modify the badge list and whatnot. I think. But the position kept, and then all the mods were made Global Mods, and well, here we are now. Now back on topic.

So what's a good message we can post everywhere to convince people to join?

Well, if you're targeting your friends, say the forum is teen friendly, and even go to the extent of mentioning the forum automatically censors most swears like bitch and fuck.

I doubt any teens would care about that. That would be if you were talking to their parents, which I don't suggest.

You do NEED a relative interest or history with dan-ball, I believe, to really be a part of the forums / community. I see us as more of a community than a forum.

Not really, Vacon. Plenty of people have come here that didn't know what dan-ball was. But yeah, we are more of a community (otherwise we'd have to call ourselves two forums, with the archives).

No, I know teens couldn't give a fuck about swear words and safety, but if they show their parents, they might let them join.

The majority of our users probably don't bother to ask their parents first. I have nothing to back it up, but neither do you. Most people I asked did not. A lot of teens would probably just insult us or not join us specifically BECAUSE we censor swear words.

I know. Which is Why I'm wondering how old Lew102 and Cresthawk are.
Anyway, I certainly do not ask my parents permission for anything, and I know nobody who does, so I've mainly been directing this at mdog, so he can try to convince his friends' parents to allow them to join.

Lew102 and Cresthawk are too young to join a forum, they are under 13, so, I think they are breaking the United States Bill of Rights.
I think just keeping some advertising on the comments boards is good enough.

They live in Australia and New Zealand, and I live in The United States, so... I can't really talk to their parents face to face, and they would be, in no way, violating anything the US passed.

We have so much in common... Except for the fact you're Asian, and I'm four year older than you Anyway, I think the bottom line is, we need to come up with one very, very convincing yet short thing to say with the dbf link, and maybe we can get more people to join. What are some things we can say?

There have been all sorts of contests and debates and discussions about this in the past. What it boils down to is, why should someone leave the comment boards and join the forum?
|
|
|
Post by Alonso on May 18, 2011 17:26:23 GMT
because, there is no comment limit,

Why? Cause we have unlimited posts, a chat, no noobs, and the PGCB is full of trolls and spammers.
