Spring : Year 1
We arrive at the site of the acclaimed fortress. There has been little time for any race to come forth successful in the world. We will be the first! It is year 6 since the world began. Small villages block the land but no mighty fortress. We will create a fortress like no other. That is, unless I get mad.
These useless pukes, they take hours to get ready.
Well let's get a move on! I order my woodcutter to chop down some wood and that rat's ass of a miner to dig a decent hide hole until we get enough booze and lung to a deeper tunnel going on.
We get a decent hole and I order there to be 2 workshops. I put some chambers just north of them for stockpiles. One for stone and one for wood. (Carpenter and Mason Workshops) Alright!
As soon as I walk in the Belgium-ing door 3 badgers start jumping and clawing at the dwarves carrying the wood in. Shit, I don't have time to kill them with an organized military (Like I'd risk anyone this early anyways). They drop from the enraged state.
As soon that's done we finish unpacking inside the fort. I immediately notice that we're running out of room for stuff. I order 3 more three by three rooms to be done for workshops. I plan to add some storage units later. as for now we need a source of food. I am going to farm plants, brew for drinks, and make easy meals from a kitchen (From the plants) Before I get started I tell my rat's ass of a party to drink from the river if we run outta booze. While I'm at it I tell my fisher dwarf to try to catch food there. Dwarves don't live on plants after all.
As soon as that's done I construct 3 more workshops along the farm corridor. I plan for these to work with the farm. I make a kitchen, a farmer's area. And a still. While I'm at it I make a food storage area behind all 3 workshops and make a quick connection to this storage area. This'll allow maximum productivity.
Finally, I order my carpenter to make a table out of oak. We're gonna have a good eating and meeting area in that large room over there!
Finally my miner comes to me and says something, "Sorry to bother you sir, but we need somewhere to sleep."
Oi Is the floor to hard for ye? We live in soil you bum!
Anyways I construct a hallway outside the food area and meeting area so they can move between these extremely quickly then put some lavish bedrooms (Sarcasm, at least they aren't 1x2 rooms. Freaking whelps.)
After that I make some more workshop rooms because we need to get a farm going fast. I hate running low on booze and food.
As soon as a do so my miner starts sleeping right where he mines. What the hell does he think this is!?
He finished mining quickly after I scold him a bit and tell him about the bedrooms. As he gets motivated. I take the day's report.
I start making five doors. I plan to use 3 in the main meeting area. I also build that table I ordered half a Christmas ago. (There is no Christmas in Dwarf Fortress by the way)
I send my miner down deeper. I need some hard non economic stone. And he's going to be the one that gets it. And since I needed stone I planned to add a more aesthetic Moria-like room down there. But I planned it so it was also practical. I wanted to reveal all the minerals and metals and stone. And get the most without ruining the look. So...
While he does that i start checking the farm, I plan a little place to put a flood gate. And start to build the doors and floodgate using my workshop of carpenter. My dwarves also start dragging stone from my staircase to my mason's shop's storage area.
Belgium Yeah!
They start doing stuff right. I take a break for five minutes on my chair of fortitude. Chairs! We need chairs!
And Dwarves Sit on STONE! So I plan to make chairs out of stone. I also order seven beds for all of us. Anyways, back to sitting on that chair...
I put down the doors and set the meeting area down and tell the dwarves. Pretty soon they understand the layout well and start drinking and eating in the main room instead of outside. I also set down the beds so they don't have to sleep in dirt and mud and grass.
Then they tell me our food is running low. And the booze. Crap...
Just then I notice that the soil in the farm area is all already wet and loamy. Well shit here I thought I had to wet it to make a farm. Catching that break I set a farm plot in all 3 areas and get my men to work.
Summer : Year 1
We finally get the farms going. We have one farmer doing all the work. I hope I get 13 more next time migrants come. Still no migrants though. I get the farmer to work. I start telling my kitchen runner to make easy meals constantly from the plants. I tell my carpenter to make a ton of barrels. And my brewer to brew like there is no tomorrow. The seeds will grow and the farms will fill eventually. We have a sustainable food and drink system going. That's the plan of course.
I put the beds up finally and assign one to each dwarf. They're pretty small but they find it an improvement over the cold floor. I start pumping out stone doors for each and every one of them. And check the farm.
Alright Nice!
We also get some migrants YAY!. The first one was a new farmer. They keep pouring in. We get 7 new dwarves. I build a bridge quickly so they don't drown trying to get across the river or getting eatin by carp.
We now have 14 dwarves! Belgium Yeah!
We now have 200 in our food stores. Well 200?
My brewer brews drinks and extracts some seeds. I start planting more. We now have 3 people who can farm. They get on the ball and start filling my farm with plump helmet and dimple cups. I keep popping out meals like crazy.
Alright, these pukes have been doing good. I make 21 more bedrooms to prepare for the oncoming migrants!
