I think we may have had a thread on thread before....
Well any way in lots of science fiction there are forcefields and personal force feilds. Could you make a personal forcefield that doesn't crush irradiate of incinerate the person/thing wearing the shield...?

And to contribute to the thread,
Well it depends on your definition of forcefield, it could be possible to create a sort of transparent shielding using carbon nanotube matrix/screen, or you could use very, very strong electromagnetic fields to deflect magnetic objects (although that may affect the object inside of the field).

Well, let's assume that a practical personal force-field would be one that could protect a human from harm by another human. (As opposed to a force-field that would protect a human from something like mosquitoes, since we are talking about sci-fi type personal force-fields.)
What methods would there be of creating that type of force-field?

You could possibly use plasma windows, which is currently used to separate vacuums from the standard atmosphere. But I'm not sure if even that would be portable or practical.

With currently known physics its pretty impossible to ever create a force field. You could perhaps create something that can deflect electrically charged particles, magnets or superconductors or similar weired stuff. But creating something that can deflect any object is quite improbable. But then again I would have never thought it would be actually possible to create cloaking devices...

Yeah, I think it still depends on the definition of force field, is it a thin 'barrier' of energy, or is it used to deflect objects? Or is a thin barrier that stops objects? There are si many definitions for force field.

Questions:
Does the forcefield let oxygen through?
Carbon Dioxide?
Cyanide?
Light?
What does it let through, and what does it not?
What is the difference between the two?
How would the forcefield know the difference?
If it has artificial inteligence, how would it let it through?
The forcefield must let Oxygen in and Carbon Dioxide out. Cyanide should be kept out. It should let through harmless objects, and not let harmful objects through. The forcefield might have AI, and could possibily turn the forcefield off when a harmless molecule is coming, and the forcefield on when a harmful molecule, but that would take a lot of energy, and would also violate the Heisenburg Uncertainty Principle.
