There is a more reliable clock using a virus ball, tho it mustn't move so air should not be a factor in the environment: 0030000000100*02102*01*03*06*05*01w00q00004000v00u01u0B*0200Du0F00Cv0E10E00Ku0J*0Hv0Lu0G*0Bv0Q00N10M*0Pu0O*0Su0X00I10V*0Y10b00au0R00e00Uu0fv0T*0W10dv0j*0cu0iu0Zv0m00g*0ku0o10lu0pu0v10u10xu0tu0z00h00**0s010*0n01200r*13*11*17*16*1901501Bv0qv1Du0wu0.*1801Cu1F014v1E10y01Ku1J*1Hv1Lu1G*1Av1Q01N11M*1Pu1O*1Su1X01I11V*1Y11b01au1R01e01Uu1fv1T*1W11dv1j*1cu1iu1Zv1m01g*1ku1o11lu1pu1v11u11xu1tu1z01h01**1s020*1n02201r*23*11o00y00e00L0Br2811y00*n28X00p0Bq2Cu0Bo28T2By1wu1.*21*2O*26*2Q02502Sv1qv2Uu2M024v2V12D*2P02Tu2W*2av2Yu2N*2Rv2e02Xu2c*2gu2j02b12Z*2k12n02mu2f02q02i12pv2h*2du2lv2v*2ou2rv2y02s*2w12uu2xu33132135u2.u34u3713602tu39u3C01U*0710413G*3Fw0A0gN3

he said on chat that you need 3 constant one inputs for it.
what you do, is you make a not out of a tube and a constant one.
then you take 2 constant ones, and feed them through the tube(as the things that go though, but can be blocked), with the output of the not being the canceler.
so no, they don't stop the need for clone/virus ball(my preference)/wheel , but they do allow for logic to have a splitter.

So the only real way to get 2 laser from 1 is with a moving deflector, since the only one we have is mercury, splitting laser isn't reliable.

can duplicate laser with laser, though the new beam does have to travel the same path as the first was.

very cool thing, takes a bit to get going but once it does it'll replicate the initial beam then uses charged metal to randomly redirect some of the duplicated beams.

endy, it isn't new, you could say it is a moving deflector, and someone made a device that if powered will let laser through 1 way, if not powered will let laser through another. But it is not as reliable as mercury, tho mercury is also unreliable.
Edit: There, made one, it has 2 version, one that shows the device as it is, the other shows how to use it to block laser when thunder is off:

well, it's not as reliable as mercury at sending out duplicates, but it is more stable. Basically only way for it to fail is if you send out all your stock of replicating beams. Give it enough room and add in more replicators and it failing would be almost impossible. edit: that is a cool device you made. I'm just thinking there's more that can be done with mixing the two. move mercury with one laser, allowing a current to pass through, the current passing through could affect a third laser and so on. be a nifty compound machine. basically a build-on to this: 0010000000100*02102*01*03*06*05*01w00q00004000v00u01u0B*0200Du0F00Cv0E10E00Ku0J*0Hv0Lu0G*0Bv0Q00N10M*0Pu0O*0Su0X00I10V*0Y10b00au0R00e00Uu0fv0T*0W10dv0j*0cu0iu0Zv0m00g*0ku0o10lu0pu0v10u10xu0tu0z00h00**0s010*0n01200r*13*11*17*16*1901501Bv0qv1Du0wu0.*1801Cu1F014v1E10y01Ku1J*1Hv1Lu1G*1Av1Q01N11M*1Pu1O*1Su1X01I11V*1Y11b01au1R01e01Uu1fv1T*1W11dv1j*1cu1iu1Zv1m01g*1ku1o11lu1pu1v11u11xu1tu1z01h01**1s00*y00x00S00p0Sy0Jy23S00E2400Dy27x24p2611y01*u23T23000r00y0Ju2Hx0Br2K10Mu2310MT00o2Ny2Lx0JT2S02Jy2U12Ro2T12Px2Vo2au0Bu2Qq29X2Wo00T2Wr2Ou2ex01q2go0Bo2io2d00Ex2mE00X2Wc2Wm2Sf0Sc2Ww0D12b10AE2to0Bc2ST00c23o0Bw2zu2l10Ec32c34000w3602r10Mo2i02X12.u2oT2qu2Qu3I03Gu2oy3Fr2k02Sy3Oy0Jo2KT2qo3T03M03QT0Sp00W2t023u3Sy3R13Ey3Fz32y00n0By00t3cT0Bz3gn3it3k000z2S12Kn3n13eT3lo01y3h02Kt0Jm03y3wy3j10Mm3zn3su0Bm4103x140*3vn42000m44y3*u43*47045u1.*21*4G*1n020*4I*4H01r*4K*4N04M04Pv1qv4Ru1wu4F*4Ov4S12F*4Lv4Wu4U04Qu4T04J04b14X*4Vu4c*4Yu4h*4g14f04eu4av4Z04dv4o*4i14lv4q*4ku4nu4j04m04pu4wv4t04x*4ru4v10Mr2w00Cp00s08104157*07157w0A0gK6

Pfft, that's not splitting, I might as well give an AND gate two outputs and input B constant and then say "input A is split"

you can do laser-laser based splitting, you just need two beams crossing each other at the right spot.
think there's some sort of life-cycle involved in laser. Like any given pixel can only spawn new laser for a limited period.
the main issue with it is just the timing required for a guaranteed split. Could possibly manage it with tubes to negate the randomness issue in the spawning.

There is a zig zagging laser through a tube. There are two lasers going through. If zig-zag (B laser) is on it blocks the straight lasers (T lasers) Simply invert the input signal with another tube and connect the output to this. It splits signals. DO NOT DEAL WITH LASERS ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS BUT RATHER AS A STREAM.

am I right in thinking of tube as a NOT gate?
basically my reasoning is that the zigzag laser is reading off the input of the straight laser.
if the straight laser is on, the output of the zigzag laser is zero. If the straight laser is off, the output of the zigzag laser is one.

You are incorrect, as the zig-zaging laser can also be turned off. Therefore, it is more like a normally closed relay. Tubes can be combined to make ANY logic gate...

ah, in terms of two variables... I get it now. functioning as a Not(Then-If) or simply as ((Not S) AND Z). just alot easier for me to visualize/create something in terms of a logical construction instead. can obviously still combine them together every which way. Just wanted to make sure I knew which gate I'm using as my base support.

a tube based memory cell: Works via forcing the straight laser to loop around continuously after entering. That oddball L-block configuration is what really manages it without causing space issues. Some interesting properties(multiple write/read/reset locations). Should work well with normal tubes, being the same approximate size. 0010000000100*02102*01*03*06*05*01w00q0000Ar00T02n0B*02000s00n01u0Br00r00X00z0I004000t0I100u0F*0Bv0S10S00Pv0Vu0T000v0Y00Xu0J00c10W*0Gv0b*0gu0d*0i10f*0Uu0j*0m10l00au0n00q10pv0h*0ou0Zv0u00su0wu0rv0xv0*u0.u1110tu12u0z113116u15u1800eu19*0ku1B*0v01A01F*1C01G*1E*1H*1K*1J*1M00y01I01O*1L01Q*1Nv1011701Pv1Uu1D01S01Zv1X01Wu1401c11V*1Rv1b*1gu1d*1i11f*1Tu1j*1m11l01au1n01q11pv1h*1ou1Yv1bu0A10An0Zz00o0du1yq0O*0Gz1*10Wu21n1.o20q01q22*0Bz24u0Bu21300y2900Pz2C00Sq2932F10A02Ho2810A32Lq27125q2Ky2G*23o2Oq0032F901p2Ru2Dq2T12M*2V12S12Py2U*2Bo2W32Q02N12fq2Xy2h00No2jy2oz2Iu2Ey2ro2q12d*2i12m32k*2eu2b12g12w02p12yy2u133131z2sq29n2a02J11z02lu2*q2A032u3Dn39*1ku1wu1rv1u01su3J11tu3Ku3P13O10ps0D01*u0dt0HT0B.0aT0Bn0bu3W00Pm2I*3I01eu3Nu3g03f03i*3e*3k*1v03j*3m*3l03M03n03q*3pv3Lv3uu3Qu3h*3tu3w03rs00P0Bo3v13Ru3x*3o*4403s*0By0Do0FT1*00LT0Bq0H10pu4800AT0Gt3Tq4Du0Zt3Tz0IT0Bp4J00Pr4Ln3Tr4O*0Gs3Tt0D*4CT4As4S*0Bs4RT4A*4Fw4Y04604ev41u4303*00Qu3z*3y14203rv4g04nu4k*45v4o*4lu4hv4s*4ru4q04fu0dr3bq0QT2Bw0ds3bm4*p3Xw4xv4v04y14m*4t04p158*4w15B057u4uu55u12*0710415J*5Iw0A0eN5

what is memory defined as, and how is it measred? and what are its uses? i dont really understand memory basically storing a value(like a tiny brain cell). in this case it just stores a 1 or Zero, as represented by the laser trapped within the loop. It's measured by firing another laser in at a diagonal angle. If the diagonal laser is unable to pass through, that tells you that there's something stored there(it equals 1). If it is able to pass through that tells you that nothing is stored there(it equals Zero). based on what the "computer" remembers you can have it perform different actions. Like storing numbers users enter or to start/stop an action(create holograms, run machines, etc). best bet is just to play around with it all. The first page in the thread is also pretty decent for a visual overview into memory and gates. ooh! I like that memory. it does not have any torch or non metal, and it is fairly small. thanks, I do like how it came out. Incorporates the reliability of MT's tube directly in with the back bender thing. I also made a more compact version: 0010000000100*02102*01*03*06*05*01w00q00004000v00u01u0B*0200Du0F00Cv0E10E00Ku0J*0Hv0Lu0G*0Bv0Q00N10M*0Pu0O*0Su0X00I10V*0Y10b00au0R00e00Uu0fv0T*0W10dv0j*0cu0iu0Zv0m00g*0ku0o10lu0pu0v10u10xu0tu0z00h00**0s010*0n01200r*13*11*17*16*1901501Bv0qv1Du0wu0.*1801Cu1F014v1E10y01Ku1J*1Hv1Lu1G*1Av1Q01N11M*1Pu1O*1Su1X01I11V*1Y11b01au1R01e01Uu1fv1T*1W11dv1j*1cu1iu1Zv1m01g*1ku1o11lu1pu1v11u11xu1tu1z01h01**1s020*1n02201r*23*21*27*26*2902502Bv1qv2Du1wu1.*2802Cu1Zp00o00T0Br00s0Zp2Lo0B.00n2L000r2N10do2LX0Bm2KT0Bq2Uu0RT0Bn2Y02Ns0ZT2Qn2P000t2a00CT0Bt2E11y024v2mu2G*2Aq2RT2Zt0Zq2s00At2On2Sr2i10dp2vr2zu0fr2Lx0Bp2yt2uT00X2QT2t12VT0GT0Bs3000Cp2Sp3202it2OT0BT2K02Ku0Zo2Ss0qo3Mu2F02ou3P*2Hv2p03Q12n*3Su3R*2Av3T*3W13V*3Yu3X02I13b03eu2q03g03Uu3hv3Z*3c13fv3l03i*3au3ku3dv3ov3tu3su3v13nu1w*0710413.*3zw0A0aO6

uh, I dont think single brain cells store information.
i think they have inputs and outputs, and if they have enough input, they output.

I miss the era of PG tech. We need to make some more BIG stuff... Not just little things. I'm thinking of a project...

I remember when I made my RAM... I don't know how long that took. I first recorded it as something stupid like 4 hours... No way, closer to 40 than 4. I always thought delay line memory would be a nice project, but I never got around to making it. But if we're going to make it right, we need to re-discover some stuff about making lasers go constant speeds. Miczu would have been good at this...
Edit: Or, of course, the delay line could constantly be re-synchronizing. Check out this delay tube, it can carry two binary bits in parallel...

Edit: Silly me, it's easy to fix the bit alignment problem... And you can easily see that bits travel at a constant rate in this tube! YAY!
