Yeah, mercury allows for some laser splitting, as does thunder and a metal O.

really tubes are the way to go. Do a logical split rather than a literal split.
Holding Z constant, a tube outputs NOT(S) and S.
Can even manage two NOT(S)'s if you bend S back around and use a second Z.
The best method for a literal split to use thunder charged metal(redirection) and lasers splitting lasers(laser beam duplication/booster).
Main issue is the sheer size involved with all the boosters. Better to use logical splits instead.

But if we're going to make it right, we need to re-discover some stuff about making lasers go constant speeds. Miczu would have been good at this... The fun times when I discovered the powder game, so many elements to work with, so many hidden mechanics behind them. Mercury was fun to, liquid metal, that reflects laser and conduct thunder, so much possibilities (but not perfect, sadly but still fun). If you wanna my help in anything, then just ask. I'm just waiting in shadows for any new element that can be used for something PG Tech related, buts that rare those days. I remember most of the things related to PG Tech, and reinventing isn't that hard if you know that you did it in the past.

this is just one of those ideas bouncing around in my head.
Basically it has to do with the fact that you could reverse the logic that we typically use. Rather than a laser representing an "On" input, it could represent an "Off".
Basically the result is to flip the expression of the gates. For example, all the OR gates we have, become AND gates and vice versa.
Due to the NOT aspect of the Tube would still need them, but would make some of the other logic gates easier to construct.
Could use it in conjunction with the logic we have now, but would require converting using one or more tubes.

In theory it doesn't matter if laser is On/true or off/false.
But in practice is much more preferable to have it as on/true.
You most likely want to use the "on" signal to trigger events like, turn on display, ignite c4, kill the player etc, and laser allow to do it directly. With "nothing" as true you would use a source to change it back to laser at the end of the machine and there is BIG problem" -on start whole game is without laser so on all outputs are on/true signals, and speed of close by source is faster then computing of machine that would put most of the outputs to the false state.
To counter that, you would have to delay the start of the end output source or work on off/false output that isn't present on start but... you end up with reversing the reversed system.
In my option it's quite troublesome, but if we would have small negating device (preferable new element that can do it in 1-2 dots) we could negate all inputs and output of an OR gate (like you did with changing the representation) we can get an AND gate.
And there is other problem - OR gate is quite useful, and to get OR in your system we need an AND gate with are in someway problematic.

yeah, I was thinking would need to use a tube in conjunction with a delay mechanism. Would be tricky, more hypothetical than anything else.

EXCUSE ME! My Laser RAM uses off to represent true in many instances. The whole concept of true and false becomes useless and inane when dealing with laser tech. A bit ago, I tried to make a new RAM, but I just haven't had the time. I'll post how it should work here, and you can figure out how to build it if you want to.
The memory unit: The memory unit used will be of the laser loop type. But, instead of shooting a laser into the device and reading whether it is blocked, the memory unit will emit a quick pulse when the loop is turned on. If you send a laser signal to turn the loop on, but it is already on, no pulse will be sent. So, to read a memory unit, you actually write an on value to it, and if it emits a pulse, you write an off value to it in order to set it back to its former value.
I will attempt to describe the wiring. I start with an input, output of a tube, output of an OR gate, or power source, and follow it through each device through which it passes. If I say something "blocks" a tube, it is a B input of that tube. If I says something "flows through" a tube, it a Z input of that tube.
Selector_Input blocks Tube_1, blocks Tube_2 and flows out Selector_Output Power_1 flows through Tube_1 and flows into OR_Gate_1 On_Input flows blocks Tube_1 and flows out On_Output Off_Input flows blocks Tube_2 and flows out Off_Output Power_2 flows through Tube_2, blocks Tube_3, and then terminates The output of the only Z laser flowing through Tube_2 flows into OR_Gate_1 The output of OR_Gate_1 blocks Tube_4 and flows through Tube_3 (This completes the memory loop) Power_3 flows through Tube_4, blocks Tube_5, goes through a short delay, flows through Tube_5, and flows out Pulse_Output
All inputs should usually be on. When you want to read or write from the memory cell, you must first set Selector_Input to be off. To set the value off, turn Off_Input off for a short time, then back on. The same is true for On_Input, and turning the memory bit on.
These memory units should be chained up in rows and columns. The Off_Outputs and On_Outputs of a memory cell should feed into the Off_Inputs and On_Inputs of the memory cell above it. The Selector_Output of one memory cell should feed into the Selector_Input of the memory cell to its right. The Pulse_Outputs of a given column should be reduced to one output with OR gates (which could be incorporated into the design of every cell, as outputs were in my old RAM).
To select a row, set the Selector_Input of that row to off. You can then send Off and On signals up each column without disturbing other cells in that column, and read the Pulse outputs that result from only the selected cells.
All in all, it's very similar to my old RAM concept, except it should use fewer tubes, fewer outputs, fewer tubes, less power, probably far less space, and only slightly more overhead.

I honestly find it nigh impossible to figure out someone else's laser tech. gates are about the only thing I've been able to pull out from others designs. I'll try and build up to that level. I tried constructing yours straight out and felt my head threatening to explode.

That memory isn't designed to be daisy chained up like a RAM memory circuit. Plus, a memory circuit with just two tubes is easy to construct. The memory in odds and ends uses three, I plan to talk to endy about that...

yeah, that was just the starter circuit that came out from me trying to figure it all out. Know memory circuits get crazy complicated, especially if you want to access a specific cell. at least came out looking decent and reasonably understandable. know it doesn't really need that last tube there as a Not gate, was more to make me feel better when looking at it. I'm just going to try and just build up more complex things. Easier for me to understand that way.

I suppose you could say it's done, but it still needs to be rigged up to all of its support structures to see what it does. Also, I found a bug with it. It would randomly emit some pulses. Luckily, there is enough space to lengthen the tube which inhibits the pulsing laser power input. well, heh, don't forget support structures. Hopefully it will fit in less than half the screen though. I have figured out that if you incorporate the memory units which hold the address with the multiplexer, you can greatly reduce the size of the multiplexer. Far fewer tubes will be needed to make this RAM's multiplexer than my previous RAM. And, it will be easier! Edit: Tiny change of plan. While in the old RAM, you addressed "bytes" which were two bits apiece, I think I will use a 4 bit address for this RAM, where every address represents a single bit of data. There are 4 reasons for this... 1. You would be better off integrating your designs with the RAM closely if you were to use any other scheme, since you would likely end up with redundant tubes or clunky design otherwise. 2. This will probably be more useful. As Qwerty said, we might be able to put this in some playable course. 3. Saves space 4. The reason for the 2 bit "bytes" in the old ram is that each "byte" contained enough bits to address any other "byte". This RAM would have more than enough, thus the usage of the bits in this RAM's "bytes" would likely not be uniform. Edit: If you are very brave, you can risk your sanity and attempt to figure out how this works... This is my progress so far... That's maybe actually small enought to make a computer? like just with 4 commands like or add 2 bits and and nand? or is this still too big for that? The ones on the left side of the torch wall will fire one laser, and maybe fire a second in another direction. The ones in the middle fire a laser in one of two directions. The ones on the right will fire the laser in one of two directions, except it has a chance of firing it in both. It also has a slight bias for some reason.
The glass wall probably needs to be thicker.
