Air formations for our aircraft are here. Each A stands for aircraft. Each -stands for air
Formation No.1 -------A-A------- -----A-----A----- ---A---------A---
Formation No.2 ------------------- A-A-A--A--A-A-A ------------------- Formation No.3 ---A----------A--- -----A------A----- --------A-A------- Formation No.4 (The "M" Formation) --A-A-- -A-A-A- A------A Formation No.5 A----------------A -----A------A----- A----------------A Formation No. 6 (As suggested by tronfan1) A-----A A-----A A-----A A-----A AAAAA
Feel welcome to make more formations and I will add them.

Thank you Fireball.
No. 4 could also be nicknamed the M formation. Due to looking like a capital M.

Should we list strategies for the formations or other such things? I don't see how this affects the roleplay at all, to be honest.

Also, for future reference, use a monospaced font such as Courier New when making ASCII art.
-------A-A------- ------A-A-A------ -----A-----A-----

OK, thank you veers.
What I normally use are the [pre][/pre] tags...

and should both also work, when used with their end tags, too, although it seems they both reduce the size of the text. Of course, depending on the use, that can be a good thing...

My point is, when will we use these? In actual combat, I mean.

When we assault a phoenix base that has air protection and we'll need to counter it...
Or if we have air skirmishes.

And how will it affect roleplay? I mean, for all practical purposes, our air combat thus far has consisted of attacking each other from great distance. Even in a dogfight the formation would be broken up right away.

True, but it's always good to have too much data rather than too little.
Besides, even if it isn't role played a lot it's good to have our own formations and plans.

We could make dogfight plans on this thread too Qwerty, then our formations wouldn't be so vonerable.

OK. Does anyone have any plans if we get into a dogfight?

I have plans for a dogfight. Alright, we start off with F-2.
1. ------------------- A-A-A--A--A-A-A -------------------
Then, when they fire at us from the ground or when we're over enemy territory, we move into F-1.
2. -------A-A------- -----A-----A----- ---A---------A---
The 3rd row units will drop their bombs, if any.
3. Boom, boom, boom.
We will then move into F-3, in which F-1 Row 1 will move into F-3 Row 2, F1 Row 2 into F-3 Row 3, and F-1 Row 3 shall move into F-3 Row 1. We have the previous bombers finished bombing, and they are moved into the front. The first row, previous defense, is now in the middle, secondary defense. The the second row is now in the end, where they will now drop bombs.
4. Formation No.3 ---A----------A--- -----A------A----- --------A-A-------
The bombings shall stop, and they will now fight, as the enemy support units have now arrived. Announcing, Formation No. 5! This position allows middle support passed to the front and partial sides, front, behind, and all middle siding.
A----------------A -----A------A----- A----------------A
This wasn't really a dogfight plan, but more of an attack plan.
Thank you for your time, sirs.
*salutes*

I like the way this guy thinks. Anyway, that should be a flawless plan.

Thank you for allowing my plan more progress into helping the Memzakian Army. I am also thinking of planning more strategies when required. If you need more, I'd be happy to plan them out.

I like No. 5 add it to the list. We can use the plan in the upcoming battle at West Outpost C
They have a large air defense sector. So our airforce might come into use.

Okay. What happens in that plan when half the ships get taken out from behind because we were flying directly over PHX airspace in the first place?

Wait- what? If they have a lot of AA and we only have a few planes, KEEP OUR PLANES AWAY!

|
Post by Qwerty on Jan 18, 2011 4:31:12 GMT
So we should use some form of advanced bomb that can go a long distance instead? Something called, I dunno, a missile? Rendering that attack strategy utterly useless as it is based on bombing?

We don't have a missile launcher yet.

Post by ~Memzak~ on Jan 18, 2011 15:13:16 GMT
Oh... XD By AA I meant they have their own small air group. And if we sent a missile to bomb them it would give away the advantage of surprise.
Basically what I meant was that we'll actually have a use for these aircraft formations in the upcoming battle. XD

Of course we have missile launchers. If we can start out with robotic troops that are all interconnected, that by the way used SOMETHING to blast open a door from a distance, we started out with missile launchers. Besides, they've been used several times in this war already. Just look at what happened with that helicopter.

Oh and yes we do have missile launchers. Look in the research thread, Artifact123 researched it.
Speaking of which, when I have less projects to help with... (AKA brystingur and the MUAV's) ... I'm going to get started on better missiles and possibly nukes. (Although the nuke will have to comply with the global nuking laws. AKA we won't really use them much.)

Ah, nukes. The greatest weapon we can never use. Would those be stuck to ICBMs, or plane-droppable, and would there be different nuke classes?

I'll need to start training new kinds of units, for the Memzakian Navy and Air Force. I'll get to it now...

First we'll research weaponizing nuclear power. Then making a basic Bomb/Prototype. Then making a plane droppable one. THEN start making a missile launched one. Finally the final research for an ICBM. (So the whole process will take a long time once I start it)
Once we've researched them they'll cost a certain amount. (For 10 of the standard nukes.) Similar to how the planes work (AKA 10 planes for 100DBs or something)
Anyways, once we've completed the ICBM final research then we'll probably already have a couple bombs, short range missiles and ICBM's and it's only a matter of researching more effective and more powerful models and buying those as well.
So it will take a while, but for now... back to making plans for an upcoming plane dogfight.
